Marbella (formerly Sevilla) Restaurant 4700 Eastern Ave Baltimore, MD

(410) 522-5092
Under new ownership as of January 1999. Flamenco shows occasionally. A small restaurant with plenty of good seats for viewing the flamenco show. Performances are usually on Saturdays and have inlcuded guitarist singer Marija Temo with dancer Ana Menendez, guitarist Michael Pérez with dancer Micaela Moreno and guitarist Torcuato Zamora with dancer Natalia Monteleón. Telephone for more info/reservations. To my knowledge, this is the ONLY flamenco show in Baltimore!

Andalucía de Rockville 12300 Wilkins Ave, Rockville MD

Call (301)770-1880.
Spanish restaurant. Hard to find, but well worth the effort...located in an industrial district. The food and service is very good. Owned and operated by María Serrano, this is an intimate (read small) restaurant--so you can't hide when one of the flamenco dancers invites you onstage! The flamenco show is on Thursdays about 8:00pm. Members of Ena Camargo's ¡Viva Flamenco! Spanish Dance Company--with dancer Micaela Moreno featured during the summer months, accompanied by guitarist Michael Pérez and occasionally Richard Marlow.

El Bosque 50 Pigeon Hill Dr in Sterling, VA

Call (703)421-3390.
Spanish restaurant. All the way out there...near Dulles Airport. Haven't been there yet, but guitarist Richard Marlow, who performs there the first Friday of the month with dancer Joana del Río, tells me it's well decorated. Don't know about the food yet, but I'll let you know.

El Bodegón 1637 R St NW

(202) 667-1710
Sorry, CLOSED After more than thirty years of regularly presenting flamenco shows, El Bodegón has closed down as of Tuesday March 18, 1997.
It's been renamed the Townhouse Tavern, a bar. The neon sign that is turned on every night still says 'Live Flamenco Show' This is of course misleading...there is no show no more.

Taberna del Alabardero 1776 I St NW

(202) 429-2200
Spanish restaurant. Shows occasionally. Around March and October, the Taberna brings a flamenco cuadro down to DC to perform for usually about 5 or 6 nights as part of a prix fixe dinner. Some of the previously invited artists: La Repompa, Contratiempo with guitarist Vicente Cortés(!), Paco de Málaga with singer Tomás de San Julian, Manolo Leiva with guitarist/singer Marija Temo. This is a very expensive restaurant so don't say I didn't warn you, but the high quality flamenco show usually justifies the expense!
(Closest Metro stop: Farragut West)

Jaleo 480 7th St NW Washington DC

(202) 628-7949
Spanish tapas bar. Brief Sevillanas shows on Wednesday nights.

Toro Tapas in Shirlington

New restaurant. The food is OK. (I ordered some mejillones --mussels in tomato sauce--and got a measly four pieces drizzled in a bland tomato sauce. I can't remember what else I ordered...it was just wasn't a memorable dining experience.) The background recorded music is a confusing blend of salsa, American rock and cumbia.
Bottom line: go for the flamenco show, not for the food or ambience. Occasional flamenco shows on weekends with guitarist Richard Marlow accompanying dancers Lola Zalamea (all the way from Pennsylvania!) and Susana Lorenzo . Located in Shirlington (south Arlington, VA) at 4053 S 28th St. Call (703)379-0502.

Mobay Café 2437 18th St NW

(202)745-1002
Across the street from Cities on 18th St. Go upstairs to a very cozy lounge with a view. Very laid back atmosphere. Drinks only (last time I was there a Corona was $5!) No food sorry. Flamenco shows Saturdays late (around 10:30pm-ish to 1am). Guitarist Richard Marlow accompanies dancer Sara Candela.
