As our wedding invitation & keepsake, we produced an album containing three
spoken tracks and four original compositions. If you want to hear a particular cut from our
wedding soundtrack, just click the
icon to play. The lyrics of each song
can be accessed by clicking its title.
These songs I've written throughout the seven years Benz & I
have been together. Some cuts in this album were collaborative efforts with my
significant other. While another one's a joint effort with my friends.
The album was released non-commercially, reason for us to easily ask some well-known recording artists in Manila, thru the permission of their
respective record labels. Other vocals were rendered gratis by equally-talented singers who are either our friends or a friend's referral.
As their wedding gift, our friends and colleagues in
the music industry more-than-willingly helped us every step of the way in producing this album.
and some composer's notes
delivered by: Bennette Co & John Rana
A light and funny moment, wherein Benz & I invite the CD listeners to be one of our special guests
on the wedding day. We'd like to think the script's funny, we just hope we're able to deliver those punch-lines!
A good-luck advise from Dra. Margarita 'Margie' Holmes
During the most trying times in our relationship, Benz sought refuge thru an exchange of e-mail correspondences with Dra. Margie. We deemed it fitting to have her talk in this compilation for she played a crucial part in the 'getting-back-together' process in the latter part of our relationship. This personal massage includes a short tale of a lady and a frog (note: Rana means frog in Spanish). A very reflective tale about relationships that anybody should ponder on.
(A regular segment on THE MORNING RUSH heard over the FM band,
RX 93.1 Monster Radio, Manila)
The Morning Rush is a favorite radio show for me & Benz. 'The Wake-up Message' is a daily segment where
Chico chooses one message (among two or three
messages screened beforehand by Del). They in turn, call up the chosen party.
Benz was really ecstatic when her messege was chosen !
Vocal: John Rana
acoustic guitar arrangement: Cesar Aguas
It was Bennette's 'nagging' request that I write a song with her name
as title since there are existing songs which has the names of her 3 closest
friends (Grace, Michelle & Shirley) as titles. But I've done this one by accident.
On Valentine '94, I was planning to beep her. While thinking of a message,
I came up with lines which I thought would be better if embodied in a song.
That aborted message is now a part of the bridge. Take notice of the refrain in
acrostic form (as in ITALY: I Trust And Love You). I had a hard time doing that
so better make a big fuss out of it!
lyrics (female part) by: Bennette Co
lead vocals: Jonjon Barros & Izza Benipayo
choir:
San Beda College Chorale
chorale arrangement: Ton2 Africa
The female Part was a poem Bennette gave me. Her first try on actual
lyric-writing. The male and duet parts plus the melody came in four months later.
I wanted the SBC Chorale to sing this for I am an Alumnus of the said campus org. and
I wanted the sound of a choir singing this at the church on our wedding. The male part was sung by Jonjon, my batchmate (and our org. president) during my days with the chorale; while the female lead was rendered by Izza, my friend Denden's younger sister. Choir arrangement by Tonton who was also the musical director
on my 1st year with the chorale.
Take Care On Your Way Back To Me
lyrics (female counterpoint) by: Bennette Co
lead vocal:
Gino Padilla
back-up vocal (male counterpoint): John Rana
back-up vocal (female counterpoint): Gigi Lucido
musical arrangement: Cesar Aguas
I remember singing this song to Bennette over the phone for nights just to win
her feelings back. Success!
The refrain is again an acrostic. This one is also a product of a beeper
message. At the time I was wooing Bennette during our major (and last!) breakup,
I paged her the entire sub-title instead of the usual 'take care'. I saw her lock
the message on her pager so I thought, why not write another Bennette song?!
Bennette instantly fell in love with this song. In fact, during the recording
session, she liked Gino's rendition so much, I think she instantly had a crush
on him. I especially like Cesar's own brand of arrangement which made the song
even more passionate.
Without this track, you wouldn't be reading this homepage, there could have been no wedding this October! Bennette wrote the female counterpoint specially for this CD version.

This one's a jamming with the Boys. Our first collaborative recording and the only song in the line-up with
a Pilipino lyrics. I've written an
english translation for you non-Filipino surfers.
Tibok (which means Heartbeat in English) is an upbeat tune that speaks about friendship and fond memories.
A cool song with an outstanding sound (considering 3-half-days of rehearsal only!).
This is the band's 'debut' single (so to speak....).

Made specially for this album, 1-0-2-6 (read as one-oh-two-six) represents
October 26, our boyfriend/girlfriend anniversary and our wedding day. I liked
the idea of having numbers as title of the song (I normally have the title first
before I work on the words and melody). Try listening to the song without reading
the lyrics and you will hear other '1-0-2-6' hidden in some lines.
