The MiG-15 'Fagot' was the Soviet Union's premier figher during the Korean War. During the Korean War the MiG's were piloted by Chinese and North Koreans. When the Korean War started the MiG-15 caused a sensation in the western world. Western intelligence sources did not believe that Soviet jet engine devolpment had reached this stage. When it appeared its rival the F-86 Sabre was not quite ready to enter the war. The MiG-15 was deadly against older American figter like the F-82, F-80 and the F-84. When the F-86 entered the war, the MiG and the Sabre were almost equal. The F-86 was faster but the MiG-15 had a higher service ceiling. The F-86 was more stable but the MiG-15 was more manoverable. The F-86 had six .50 Caliber MG's while the MiG has Two 23mm and one 37mm cannons. The MG's were easier to aim but more bullets were required to knock a MiG out of the sky, the MiG's cannons were hard to aim but only one 37mm shell was required to knock a sabre out of the Sky. Even so, the MiG were maimed badly because the american piolts were trained extensivly, while the North Korean and Chinese Piolts were very pourly trained.
