-Japan annexes Manchuria since that land is supposedly rightfully theirs. So Japanese imitate Hitler and Mussolini in that they too have annexed lands: Austria and Poland for Hitler and Ethiopia and Libya for Mussolini.
- A putsch almost succeed to replace the Japanese government, but the putschists are arrested and executed after they have killed only a few diplomats.
-November 25, the Axis Pact: Japan, Germany and Italy, is acknowledged.
-July 7 1937, Japanese and Chinese both want to rule over Marco-Polo bridge in the northern part of China. This result in the first battle where the Japanese progress south by following the coast and the railroads. This way japanese soldiers go as far as Beijin (today's Pekin) and Tianjin. The chinese army is defenseless even if it has more soldiers since it is lacking equipment (like tanks, airplanes and artillery).
-Japanese also attacks Shanghai from the Yellow Sea on August 8, but the high quality of the chinese troops stationed there give the Japanese some resistance and so the fights will go on until November 11, date at which Shanghai falls.
