Platoon Attack:
SITUATION
You are a 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (26th MEU) - Battalion Landing Team - 1st Battalion, 8th Marines (BLT 1/8) - Platoon Commander (USMC Platoon: Platoon Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Radio Operator, and three Squads composed of 13 Marines each - Squad Leader - three Fire Teams composed of a Fire Team Leader, an Automatic Rifleman, and two Riflemen). Your unit has been in the country of Cortina for the past four weeks as part of a Joint Task Force (JTF) providing security for humanitarian relief efforts. Cortina is a Third World Country in the midst of a very active insurgency. The result has been a near total breakdown of law and order as well as a serious degradation of the urban infrastructure. This has been accompanied by outbreaks of disease and starvation. To date, there are at least three different factions fighting for control of the country. Enemy infantry forces have infiltrated and are occupying defensive positions around Shughart-Gordon Village (political and economic heart of an important coastal Department). The enemy's focus of main effort is to take control of Shughart-Gordon in order to secure a power base for further political and military actions against the Cortinian government. BLT 1/8 has been given the mission to retake control and return rightful control of the Village back to the government and host country military/police forces. The majority of the civilian populace has fled the city. However, some government workers remain and there is a strong possibility that these civilians may be used as "human shields". The BLT has secured most of its initial objectives, but has been running into considerable resistance and has encountered some fortified buildings. Your company has been tasked with taking a key road intersection which controls the MSR that runs through Shughart-Gordon. You have been regrouping from the initial enemy counterattacks and taken the time to resupply and rest.
Your Company Commander walks in and throws a map of Shughart-Gordon down on the g round and tells you "to have a seat". He points to a series of three buildings on the eastern side of town. He explains that higher headquarters has ordered that these buildings be taken intact with minimal collateral damage. He also estimates that there is at least one enemy squad (10-12 men) defending the buildings and orders your platoon to clear them in succession. He states that you will use chemlights in the windows to mark your forward line of troops (FLOT) so his other two platoons can support you by fire, aiming two rooms in front of your line. He also directs that you mark your route through the buildings for his reserve platoon to do a passage of lines and take the final objective (hospital - building #21).
ENEMY SITUATION
The S-2 reports that a squad sized force (10-12 men) is entrenched in three buildings (townhouse: building # 22 - house: building # 7 - and power station: building # 4). They have no mechanized or air support. However, they have good mutual support from the hospital (building # 21) and City Hall (building #12). The enemy is armed with AR-15's, AK-47's and some stolen U.S. SMAWs. They have had enough time to put in some mines and booby traps. No civilians have been seen in the area.
MISSION
Your platoon has been assigned the following mission: Beginning at 0900, conduct a platoon attack on the townhouse (building # 22), house (building # 7) and power station (building #4) in succession.
