The first 3 AT-26 Xavante (EMBRAER EMB-326G) arrived on December 28, 1978 at the Asunción airport. The next 6 would arrive between January and June 1980.
On September 10, 1980 Lt. Crescencio Leyton crashes with the 1008 on the lac Ypacarai, dying on impact. A new aircraft (1010) is bought in 1981 to replace the one lost.
During a training flight 1002 took fire and the two pilots had to eject. 1003 is lost in 1988 during another training accident.
When General Stroessner lost power during the night of February 2, 1989 the AT-26 Xavante did bomb and straffe his bunker helping him in his decision to surrender.
Another AT-26 Xavante (1001) was lost in 1990 during another training flight.
Four new AT-26 Xavante are likely to be purchased in the future from Brazil when budget allows.
