A tank's actual performance is the result of the best combination of three key factors : Firepower, Armor and Mobility. Each of these three elements influences the others (i.e. a heavily armored vehicle can afford a "big cannon" but it will pay a toll in terms of mobility, a lighter tank will be fast but its fire-power will be limited, etc.)

Notes about the tables

A. Tanks classification

• Heavy Tanks : This table includes tanks whose primary roles are overwatch of medium tanks, "breakthrough", heavy and long range antitank. These tanks were usually grouped in separate units and formed only a small portion of an Army's total tank strenght. Priorities : Firepower, Armor and (distant third) Mobility.
• Medium Tanks : This table includes tanks whose primary roles are general Infantry support, antitank and exploitation. Medium tanks represent the backbone of an Army's total tank strenght. All the main features, Firepower, Armor, Mobilty, are equally important.
• Light Tanks : This tables includes tanks whose roles are the classic cavalry ones : reconnaissance, screening and first enemy engagement. Priority is Mobilty while Firepower and Armor are (equally) less important.

B. Units of measure

• Weight : tons
• Speed : km/hr
• Range : km
• Dimensions : meters. Measures are, in order : lenght (cannon included), width and height.
• Main Gun : caliber in mm.
• Machine gun : number / caliber (mm)
• Crew : number
• Armor : mm. (figure represents the max armor)
