Diva in a Bucket Diva's Story Diva Sitting Pretty

Hi! I'm glad you came to visit me at my web page. I hope you will sign my guest book , or send me e-mail and a pet picture . This is my sister's guest book and e-mail address too, but I don't mind sharing. We've had some other visitors too ( I love visitors!), you can view our guestbook , or look at their e-mail and pictures here.

My full name is Lady Diva Jellybean. I know, it's kind of a silly name, but my human-mom gave it to me and she just won't change it. People call me Diva though, that I can live with, and I think I've been living up to it as well.

I chose my people in August of 1997, when I was a kitten of 8 weeks. Up until then I lived in a garage with my cat-mom and brothers and sisters. My cat-mom was pure white like me, but my brothers and sisters were all sorts of colours. One of my sisters lives with my human-dad's sister, isn't that neat? Hopefully they will send me a picture to post.

Choosing my people was a very carefully laid out plan. On the evening they came to visit, I was on my best behaviour. I just knew my people would be arriving soon. So, I hauled out my "cute kitten handbook" and began practicing for the big event. Sure enough, shortly later some people arrived, but a whole slew of people arrived! There were five in all, talk about confusing - I knew my people were in the bunch of them, but how on earth would I find them without getting snatched up by the wrong person? This wasn't covered anywhere in my cute kitten handbook. I knew I was supposed to pick them , but I was on my own when it came to choosing from a group.

I really didn't know what to do, people were coming at me and trying to pick me up, being loud and gropey, and I really didn't like it much. No way was someone going to scoop me up and poke and prod me like they were trying to pick the right watermelon or something. So I vamoosed! Yep, I took off, I decided to let things calm down some before picking my people. Luckily in a garage there are a lot of things to play with, so I busied myself with climbing in and out of pipes and boxes, darting through people legs, and observing these big, tall, loud creatures from afar.

Pretty soon, through keen kitten observation, I noticed that these people were basically in two groups. A mom and dad and daughter, and another lady and man who were together. It seemed that in these two groups it was the girl who needed adopting, and the lady of the other couple who needed adopting. "Well this isn't too bad," I thought, "it's either the girl or the lady who is supposed to become my person." That I could deal with, and it was time to put the cute kitten lessons into play, I came out and began to socialize.

Uh oh. Things weren't working out right. Somehow before I got to work my kitten magic, the girl had been adopted by my sister. That only meant one thing, it was the lady who was meant to become my person. Sheesh, why did these things have to be so difficult to figure out? I could have gotten in an awful lot of cuteness in the time it took to figure out who I was supposed to adopt. Oh well, c'est la vie, time to go get my lady.

Uh oh again! The lady was holding my orange brother and playing with him. What? No no no no no! What was he doing playing with my lady? This was going all wrong. I had to think quickly. What to do, what to do? Needless to say this wasn't covered in my kitten handbook either, someone should rewrite that book, it's all wrong! Well, I was totally befuddled, and took a minute to myself to think. I sat myself down in the middle of the garage and looked around. The mom and dad and girl were busy getting luvvies from my sister, and the lady was petting my brother. Wait! That other guy was just standing there watching the lady. "Ah ha, this could be my break," I thought, "better get the plan moving." So I sidled over to the guy, I knew he was with the lady, but maybe it was him that I was supposed to adopt after all, and not the lady? He picked me up and we snuggled, pretty soon I was asleep in his arms, it just felt right, you know?

Soon the lady looked around to see what the guy was doing, she saw us snuggling and came over to see what was going on. She had put my brother down to come and see us - that was the clincher. She came over and petted me, and asked the guy why he was holding me. He said to her "I dunno, she just came over to see me, crawled right up, and went to sleep." I woke up a bit then, this is where I put the "cute kitten steps" into play. I purred, and stretched, and yawned, and reached out, I really played it up because I knew now that I was going home with one of these people.

It turned out that I was right to begin with, it was the lady that I was to adopt. When I fell back to sleep, the guy handed me to the lady, and we all went out into the car, and went home.

That was back in August of '97 and I'm happy to say that my person has worked out quite well. The guy has even come to live with us too, and that's even way better! I suspect he came to live with us because he missed me so much when he went home. He's "play guy" and plays with me lots, we play tag mostly.

Of course we have all had our moments, like the time they stuck me into a carrier and took me to this terrible place. I had been in my carrier lots of times to go visiting people, so I had no clue. But this time was different, this time we went to a veterinarian's. I never even knew what a veterinarian was at that time, but I sure do now! I came out with stitches in my belly, with my lady telling me that it was for my own good, so that no kittens would have to go through the turmoil of trying to find homes. Humph. I didn't like it, but I've since shown them!

Now whenever they take me there I embarrass my people. The last time I went there it was because I had caught a cold that my new sister brought home with her from a shelter. That veterinarian tried to put a thermometer in my bum, can you imagine?! I don't know if it's good advice or not, but I highly recommend becoming mean when they try to do that. I growled and hissed and swiped, and I even peed on him. It doesn't seem to affect the outcome any, they still end up doing what they want to do, but we do have a responsibility to make our peoples' lives interesting you know.

I hope you have enjoyed my story. Recently my new sister came to live with us, I really like her, and her story is at this page .

I've included some pictures below to show you too, or better yet - visit my java slide show with lots of pics.

Bye for now, thanks for visiting!
Love,
Diva
