  Origin: Native to China


Hardiness: Freezes to ground at 0 degrees; Zones 7, 8, 9 and 10
*Growth: Rapid growth to 8 feet
Form: Arching form if the plant is not sheared
Leaves: Glossy; oval; one inch long; dark green; bronzy when new
Flowers: White fragrant flowers in summer and fall
Exposure: Sun, half shade
Water: Average water, deeply two times a month
Soil: Clay or loam soils are preferred
Fertilizer: Spring or fall; fertilize both times in sandy soils
Prune: Thin old canes in February
Problems: Watch for aphids

'Edward Gaucher' is a smaller variety with pink flowers. Abelias are often sheared to keep them small, but they lose their natural fountain shape.
