Hardiness: Hardy to 20 degrees; USDA Zones 9 and 10
Growth: Slow growth to 3 feet with 5 foot spread
Form: Low mound easily maintained by occasional pruning
Leaves: Narrow, 3", bluish gray-green
Flowers: Spikes are bright red, 3-4" long, late winter to fall
Fruit or Seeds: Brown capsules persist for several years
Exposure: Full sun to part shade
Water: Likes to be moist, but can withstand drought
Soil: Good drainage; alkaline soil okay
Fertilizer: NPK in the spring or fall
Prune: In the autumn after flowering, head back to control size
Problems: Few problems

Bottlebrush plants have many uses in the landscape. Use this one wherever you need a low mounding shrub, such as under windows. As with other Callistemon, it attracts hummingbirds.
