Growth: Slow growth to 15 feet by 10 feet wide
Form: Open form with twisted branches
Leaves: Tiny dark green scales
Cones: Half inch blue cones in the fall
Exposure: Full sun or part shade; does well at coast
Water: Deep water monthly
Soil: Well drained loam or sand
Fertilizer: Not needed
Prune: Thin in early spring
Problems: Red spider mites; root rot if overwateredThis is a widely planted Juniper that needs plenty of space; don't plant it too close to a wall or house. It is often planted to frame buildings -- at the corners. It makes a good accent. Too often it is used where there is no room to let it grow to full size. Heading back the lateral branches too severely destroys the plant's character.
