  Origin: Native to Western Australia


Hardiness: Hardy in Zones 9 and 10
Growth: Rapid growth to 15 to 20 feet with wider spread
Form: Large mounding shrub or a small tree
Leaves: Gray-green, leathery, one inch, oval
Flowers: One inch globes of pink (mauve) stamens
Fruit or Seeds: Brown seed capusules persist for years around stems
Exposure: Prefers full sun along coast; adapted inland too
Water: Does well lith little or much water; needs more water inland
Soil: Tolerates most soils, even those with poor drainage
Fertilizer: Nitrogen and iron in spring if leaves are yellow
Prune: Thin to reveal twisting branches with thick textured bark
Problems: Few problems

Does well in low frost coastal and southern California. Takes winds along the coast and desert heat as well. Useful as a screen, a hedge or a specimen. Planted along freeways in some parts of the state.
