DREAM JOURNALS

Keeping a record of your dreams is a very important part in learning to analyze your dreams.  So often we forget our dreams, or vital parts of them.  What may seem important enough in our dream to take note of and remembering may not actually be the "keys" in the dream we need to remember.  Keeping a dream journal also allows us to put a "theme" to the dream and in keeping the dream journal it enables us to see recurrent "themes" that we would usually not notice by just remembering the dream.  This is called "dreaming in series."  Our dreams are sometimes like those dreaded TV specials and our messages are "to be continued."  We may be missing the full message of our dreams if we don’t also look at the overall theme that our "dream series" is showing us.

When our dreams are intending to send us a message, they will keep trying until we "get it."  Keeping a dream journal helps us immensely in understanding our dreams.  Here are a few tips on dream journaling:

Date your entry. This can help you later make connections between your dreams and the events in your life.

Title your dreams. Decide on a "theme."  This can help in cataloging and, later, in locating dreams. Also, "where" you get the title tends to be from the same creative, inner place that the dream comes from. Pay attention to this!   Also, try to match the "theme" of the dream, with a "theme" in your life right now.

Write the dream in a journal in the present tense. This allows you to reserve the past tense for when it really happens in the dream (e.g., I am walking down the street and suddenly recognize a woman I once worked with). Writing the dream in the present tense also allows you to experience more closely and acutely the feelings you were actually having when you had the dream.

Lastly, at the bottom of the page, make a few notes about what is going on in your life at the time. This can help you later see patterns.

Now you are ready to review and analyze the dream!
