AT HOME

-make sure the lights and fans are off when rooms are not used

-Use compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of ordinary incandescent ones. They only use a small amount of power and will lase longer.

-Use natural methods of pest control i.e. keep kitchen surfaces clean and cover food to discourage cockroaches, ants and other pest.

-store food in fridge, use containers instead of plastic or aluminium foil.

-recycle glass jars, bottles, newspapers, aluminium and steel cans whenever you can.

-use towels, not paper towels

-plant a tree and grow other plants in your garden

-Use durable products instead of disposable ones. For example, use cloth rather than paper napkins, durable cameras instead of disposable ones, handkerchiefs instead of tissues, sponges or rags instead of paper towels

-Use rechargeable batteries.

-Use old fabric and worn-out clothes as rags.

-Use cloth or metal coffee filters instead of paper filters.

-Use cloth diapers instead of disposable diapers.

-Use a mug instead of a paper or plastic cup.

- Repair broken appliances instead of throwing them away and buying new ones.

-Use natural light as much as possible.

-Adjust fridge to less cold setting

-Take showers instead of baths. Save water.
