BROWN HAWK-OWL

Abundance: Vagrant. One Australian recording on Ashmore Reef, off north- west Australia.
Habitat: Forests, woodlands.
Description: Eyes yellow. Indistinct facial mask; whitish forehead, lores. Upperparts uniform dark brown. Underparts off-white, streaked brown. Pointed wings. Tail longish, dark brown, lighter bars.
Size: 29 cm.
Voice: Musical double-hoot, second note brief, higher-pitched.
