My Pictures aren't showing up!
First, was it uploaded properly? Your web page will not reference them from your own computer. If they did, then you need to check the spelling. It has to be EXACT and CaSe SeNsItIvItY counts.
In other words, MYPICTURE.GIF isn't the same as MyPicture.GIF isn't the same as mypicture.gif. If all that is okay, then you need to make sure you removed all the references to your computer in there. You can't have the words File C:\|\\\images\ (or whatever filename you stored them in on your computer is called)
in front of any of the images.
I deleted my index.html!
If this was your original put in place by Geocities, no problem. Just create a new one, either in one of the Geo Editors, or with your own program and upload it. If this was a page you already made, check your browser's cache, you may have a stored copy in there.
One way to do this is to go to Start; Find Files or Folders; and type in the word "cache" or "about cache" Look for your index.html in there. If you recently cleared your cache(s), well, next time make sure to save backup copies to your hard drive or floppy disk.
My background picture doesn't show up!
Make sure the file is uploaded, that it's spelled right, and that you have only ONE tag. There is a problem with the Basic Editor adding an extra BODY tag, and Netscape reads the first and ignores the second. if your page even comes up at all.
How can I upload files with Netscape Gold?
You can't. You'll need to use the EZ Upload in the File Manager, or use an FTP Client if that's your preference.
Can I use Front Page extensions at Geocities?
They're not supported at this time. It requires major reconfiguration of the server, and there are currently no plans to have it done.
Microsoft's Web Publishing Wizard doesn't work!
Nope. You'll need to upload your files with FTP, or EZ Upload. The Web Wizard wants to create subdirectories, and check to see if the files were placed into your private directory, and that can't be done at Geocities.
How can I create a folder or subdirectory?
Buy Geoplus, at $4.95 a month. Only Geoplus subscribers have access to subdirectories.
I edited my page in file manager and it showed in preview, but when I go to my page it says I still haven't moved in!
Again, make sure your cache is clear and hit "Reload" or "Refresh" on your browser. You're just seeing the old version.
I can't type any more in the advanced editor!
There is a limit of text entry in your browser of about 30 kilobytes or so. You can't edit any more than that in the Advanced Editor. You'll now need to work offline with your own Editor and upload the page with FTP or EZ Upload.
I don't see a browse button. What do I do now?
You'll need to use FTP to send your files to Geocities. The Browse buton only appears with Netscape 2.0 and higher, and with Microsoft Explorer 3.02 with the patch (available from Microsoft). There will be no browse button if you're using AOL.
