Although
WebTV is one of the neatest inventions to come along in a few years, allowing
for an affordable connection to the internet, it cannot save and store your web
pages. And that can have tragic consequences, particularly at Geocities. Since
Geocities moved to its new server, the complete "crashes" of
neighborhoods have become all too common. Recently affected, as of this writing,
were South Beach and SoHo. Geocities restores the pages, eventually, but any
changes that were made recent to the crash, were not restored. It doesn't
matter, if the pages are backed up and on your own computer, but if you don't
have a computer to store it in, what do you do? One alternative is to use your
library's internet connection, and store them on a floppy disk, or go to Kinko's
or an "Internet Cafe" and pay for computer usage.
Or you can
email me, and request a
backup for your site. I will download your *documents* (not your images), and
store them on a floppy disk at my home for you. If Geocities crashes your site,
I will then email the current pages back to you, so you can restore the pages
with your updated work. Alternatively, on a case by case basis, I will re-upload
them for you. Mr. Woody's
guidelines will be followed in this case. This will not apply to any pages that
were removed due to content violations, or if you decide you want to move out of
Geocities. This is also offered only to my fellow Geocitizens with
WebTV, and not to anyone with pages on another server. This offer is also not
available to anyone with a PC, or access to a free one, such as at work, as you
can do it yourself. I will decide if I want to store your pages, and my decision
is final. For example, if your pages violate Geocities guidelines in any manner,
I will not back them up for you until the pages are brought within the member
guidelines.
Due to having more space than I sometimes know what to do with, I will be offering a graphic site to link to IF YOU ARE A GEOCITIZEN ONLY for backgrounds, bullets and images. This will be in the HotSprings neighborhood, and will be upcoming in the future. There are already some Fire and EMS based images there, and you are welcome to use those to link to right now, if you'd like. The sets include state specific EMS backgrounds, along with a few fire-related graphics. Watch for an announcement to be posted on the "Welcome" page at this site, along with one in the WebTV Help Forum, when it's online with general graphics.
