Promoting your Homepage
Now that you have a fabulous Homepage (which you're sure to be VERY proud of) you'll want to let the whole world know about it!
Here are a few tips on how to get visitors to your site:
Tell everyone!
OK, so this may seem obvious but what I really mean is give people the actual address, don't just casually mention that you have a page.
One great method is to send your friends an e-mail and stick your URL address at the end of the message. Who could resist the curiousity?
Enrol in a banner exchange program
These programs allow you to display a banner-ad on other people's Homepages in return for you displaying their's. I recommend Link Exchange. You'll need to create a banner to submit to Link Exchange. If this seems a bit tricky for you, Geocities has organised a group of volunteers to make a banner for you. You can request this by clicking here. If you're feeling adventurous and want to make your own banner, try using the Banner Generator.
Register with Geocities
By registering, you make it easier for visitors to find you when they search Geocities. Click here to register.
Get listed
Submit your URL to search engines, such as Yahoo and Infoseek. Each of these search engines should have a "Submit URL" button where you can submit your site, but to list with several search engines in one go, try visiting Add URL.
To make your listing more efficient, add the following code to the beginning of your index.html page (substituting your description and keywords where indicated):

content="enter several keywords for your site">

Join a web-ring
Web-rings are networks of related sites, linked by a banner. This banner allows visitors to jump between the linked sites and therefore gives you more visitors to your site!

Joining this ring is a great way to instantly boost the number of visitors to your site...FREE advertising!
An example of a Web-Ring banner can be seen below with the Silicon Valley Web-Ring. To join a ring, find a similar banner on someone's page and ask to join!
