HALLOWEENWith Halloween upon us, it is a good opportunity to evaluate negative spiritual forces in our lives. Most rational people will say, "Negative spiritual forces? Oh no! I'm not involved in anything like that." Then, these individuals will turn to the horoscope section of their paper, play a Ouija board or tarot cards at a party, or see a spiritual advisor just for the "fun" of it. As human beings, we are prone to sin and temptation. Many of us think we are mighty fortresses, spared from the ugliness and evils of the world. We are used to everything going our way. When it does, we take down our guard, thinking we will continue to be safe. Dabbling in the occult is no laughing matter. "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritualist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord..." Deuteronomy18.10-12 The reason being, those embracing such negative avenues are either consciously or unconsciously inviting evil (Satan) into their lives, and thus, rejecting good (God). It doesn't matter if one perceives these things as harmless games or novelties, the results are the same to God. "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14.12 The driving force behind those involved in such dangerous "games," typically is the desire for knowledge, power and control. In our modern age of fast food and convenience items, we want to be able to see into our futures just as easily. How long will it take man to realize that our lives are not ruled by planets, charms, or the spirits of the dead, but by our own individual choices and actions. The remainder is in the hands of God. Instead of putting your faith in idolatry and sorcery, try placing it in the loving arms of Our Father, God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." - Matthew 22.37 Contributed by Melanie Schurr (Copyright 1997 Melanie Schurr). Also, since I work at a daycare center, people expect me to dress up. I always tell them I'm cute enough to come as myself. Each year when Halloween approaches, I get such a feeling of depression. I feel as if a dark cloud comes and doesn't leave until November 1. It's such an eerie holiday, representing nothing but evil. I don't know how many of you feel this way, or if you even do, but I just can't look forward to October 31. It seems all cute and sweet to see the kids dressed up, and I admit I like to see them too, but I still don't like the idea of it. It upsets me. I cannot stand witches for one thing. They are so ugly, and only represent evil, then there's all the other disgusting costumes people wear that bother me. Then there's the stories you hear about Satanic sacrifices that occur on this day. I just don't like the idea of setting aside this one day, that only stands out as another sugar coated lie Satan came up with, to glorify something so evil. It bothers me. So, in leui of this day that I am not looking forward to, I have written the following poem. Hope you like it. Elisa. TRICK OR TREAT?Dressing up for Halloween? THANKS FOR VISITING! GOD BLESS YOU! |
