New LCDisplayer v0.63 beta visual Winamp plug-in is available!

Whats New: The spectrum analyzer now has a height option so it can be more than 1 character high.  The display now clears when the plug-in exits (though you can optionally disable this in case you don't want to clear on exit).  I fixed a bug that would cause the plug-in to crash when the simulation window was used with display sizes larger than 40x4.  The simulation window should have no limits but I've only tested it running 40x16 (with a full screen spectrum analyzer even).  Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention the spectrum analyzer is now a more accurate graph (resulting in a more detailed display of the levels).

New LCDisplayer v0.62 beta visual Winamp plug-in is available!

Whats New: Added a spectrum analyzer!  You can configure a one line spectrum analyzer at any location with a specified width.  For the future I will add the height option so it can span more than one line.  The one limitation is since HD44780 LCD panels only have 8 custom characters the all get used up by the spectrum analzyer.  Read the LCDisplayer INI Guide for details on how to use the spectrum analyzer (there is also a sample 40x4 configuration with the analyzer enabled.

New LCDisplayer v0.61 beta visual Winamp plug-in is available!

Whats New: Added probably the most requested feature - left scrolling mode.  Each item can be set to scroll the old way or to scroll to the left only.  You can also specify what text to use to separate the end of the text with the start (when the text repeats).  Read the LCDisplayer INI Guide for details on how to use the alternate left scrolling.

New LCDisplayer v0.60 beta visual Winamp plug-in is available!

Whats New: New display engine allows items of any length to scroll.  That means you no longer have to dedicate an entire line for an item to scroll.  Futaba VFD modules are also now supported.  Custom characters can be defined to be used as the indicators for the playing status, stereo/mono sound, shuffle, and repeat. Because a new and much more powerful display engine is used the INI file structure has pretty much completely changed (so the INI file from a previous version will not work).  The good news is I spent some time doing some pretty good docs and included a couple example INI files.  A much welcomed feature I mentioned earlier is the LCD Simulation Window.  The Simulation Window operates almost exactly like an LCD panel and actually uses 5x8 characters that the LCD panels use.  This lets you easily make up a configuration without needing a display connected to the PC.

Made the long over-due FAQ I've been wanting to make.  I am still working on the plug-ins... not getting as much work done as I'd like.  Want to help?  I could use someone to build and maintain a web site for this project.  I find HTML work extremely tedious... I'd much rather be working on the plug-ins.  See the end of the FAQ for details.

What's new?  well I do have a new version of the vis plug-in under development... it has a completely overhauled display output engine that supports all HD44780 displays (in 8 bit parallel mode with the wiring convention found on this site), Futaba VFD panels, and an LCD simulation (yes, the actual LCD characters simulated in a little window on the screen).

News (Feb. 13, 2000)

New version 0.59 of the LCDisplayer Winamp plug-in.  The new feature is Shuffle and Repeat indicators.  No big news on the Jukebox plug-in.  I am currently working on the file manager (being able to copy and delete files).

News (Dec. 31, 1999)

Shuffle and Repeat toggle commands have been added as well as indicators for the display.  A lot of people want this visual feature and I plan on adding it to the LCDisplayer visual plug-in as well.
No other news to report but I have been getting quite a bit of e-mail from people wondering when the Jukebox plug-in will be done.  I am still working on it but I haven't been getting as much done over the holidays as I would have liked... I'm sure most people can relate to that.  But anyway, do not fear, I have not given up on it.

The list of features so far:
- configure which files (based on file extension) the player will recognize
- browse files and folders on hard drive(s) and/or removable device(s) (to play or enqueue)
- visual volume control
- control the 10 band equalizer built into Winamp (with virtually an unlimited number of presets)
- Set the Time and Date of the PC
- all the current visual options of LCDisplayer and more (set up any number of info display screens to switch between)
- Shutdown the PC
- IR control (using the Universal Infrared Receiver by Ties Bos)
- keyboard input (complete customizable keyboard mapping)
- mouse input control (optional use)

I finally got my IR receiver, so I now have all the parts for the player.  All I need now is a nice custom case... but of course that has low priority.  Just FYI, the Jukebox plug-in will not be available until all features have been implemented.

Other major features I have left to do:
- file manager (copy/delete files)
- queue manager (edit the current playlist)
- alarm module (time/date event setting when to start/stop playing)
- radio module (supports those ISA radio cards)
- ID3v2 (not sure how used this is, but might as well support it)
- shuffle/repeat/continue playing modes
- on screen simulation (actual LCD-like display)
- and a few other surprises

Lastly, I am currently using my player with a NEC 4x4 CD-ROM drive and it works great!  I know a lot of people are making car players and this drive may be to fragile for that, but man it rocks being able to put 4 CDs (along with the music I have on the hard drive).  Actually I have found one down side.  This drive does not reliably read some CD-R media which I can only guess is because of its age.
