Applications use | I have familiarity with all common office and many database applications |
Programming |
My final year Engineering project was to write a database interface
for the object-oriented Postgres95 RDBMS to allow connection to both
the WWW and legacy database systems. I used to be a main developer of MikMod for Unix, a multi-platform audio application currently portable to most common Unix platforms I maintain several packages for the Debian Linux distribution I have good knowledge of C, particularly in a Unix environment, and to a small extent under DOS. I have some experience of Pascal, C++, awk, sed, perl, tcl, m4, sh, SQL, HTML and some variants of assembly. In the course of my employment at Allstor Software I have helped to develop and maintain several pieces of software for AIX (versions 3.2 through to 4.3), NetBSD (1.2 to 1.3) and Solaris (2.4 to 2.6), ranging from simple application code through to kernel drivers for each. |
System administration |
I am sysadmin of my own machine running Linux which used to be hammer.chu.cam.ac.uk, providing
Unix shell access and other services for myself and about 60 other
people within the University. I have set up simple ethernet networks using a variety of hardware. I have experience of administering Solaris, NetBSD and AIX (as above). |
I have a full UK driving licence, and I own a car.
I am a keen role-player, both running and playing games organised by
CURS, the University
Role-Playing Society. I was elected Secretary for the Society for
three years, and I am currently the Chief Caprine Entity. I
picked up a quarter-blue in 1996 for representing CURS (and hence the
University) in the annual Role-Playing Varsity Match against Oxford.
I am interested in almost all forms of sport and am willing to try
anything, even if I have little skill.
