Classic Gaming Expo '99 Vendors & Exhibitors
I arrived at the show shortly after it opened at 9:00am Saturday. After a brief wait in line
to get my badge, I wandered into the Main Hall which was full of vendors and exhibitors.
There were close to 20 booths set up in the Main Hall, along with quite a few classic arcade machines
(all setup for free play) including BattleZone, Missile Command, Warlords and Tron. Several classic
home systems were also setup for free play, including Atari 2600/5200/7800, Intellivision, and ColecoVision.
There was table after table of classic game cartridges, systems and peripherals for sale, as well as
several new games for the 2600, Lynx, and the much anticipated Yars' Revenge for Gameboy Color, for sale
over a month before it's due to hit the stores. The other new games on display were the Lynx games Ponx
and Lexis,
both from Songbird Productions, and
and the 2600 games Pesco and Merlin's Walls, both from Ebivision.
Merlin's Walls is the first ever 3D maze game for the 2600, which is a pretty amazing thing!
One of the most popular booths was the Hasbro Interactive booth,
which had playable Sony Playstation versions of their upcoming titles. As you probably know, Hasbro
bought the rights to the entire catalog of classic Atari games and plans to release several updated versions. The games on display at the Expo were
Pong, Missile Command, Q*bert, and the recently released Centipede. Of the games I played, I enjoyed the new Pong the most. This should
prove to be a hit for the Playstation.
There were many other exhibitors and vendors at CGE'99, too many to list here. For a more comprehensive list, you can visit the
