The date was set to new-years eve in 1999

With the machine staying on, operation continued ok but file-manager showed dates with :0 instead of 00

After the machine had been turned off and on, the date in the BIOS was interprated as another year (1980?) which was not noted at the time.

The date was set to 04-Jan 2000

With the machine staying on, operation continued ok.

After the machine had been turned off and on, operation continued ok.

The machine continued to operate into 2000 for a few days ok.

Conclusion
Looks like this machine will work ok as a word processor into the next millenium. It may require the date to be reset in the BIOS after Jan 1st has passed.
