Conclusion
This Machine will not cater for 4 digit year in BIOS.
Thus after yr 2000, the date will reset if the machine
is powered down.
Epilogue:...
This Machine was left with the date returned to 1980.
When windows 95 reported that daylight saving was being
turned on... access to the hard disk stopped!
The 2.1g Hard disk is not supported by the machine BIOS
but by a ONTRACK utility. There may be some interaction
but this is more strictly a 1980, rather than a 2000 problem.
Continued:...
This machine uses the ontrack boot sector utility to overcome
the BIOS not recognising the 2gB disk.
The nice people at
ontrack
have suggested that the most likely cause is a boot sector virus.
As so much junk has been loaded onto this machine at some time,
this seems a distinct possibility.
Disk check utilities have been supplied by
http://www.ontrack.com/
and will be used for investigation if time permits.
