Calling upon his clairvoyance powers, Merlin sees through the fabric of time and reveals terrible happenings. Having found an ancient mystical cube, Morgana used it to summon a creature, named Gul'dan, from an inferior world, maybe Hell itself. She taught him about Excalibur, whose power might be used to create a permanent passage between the two worlds. Merlin also has a vision of the sword being riveted into a runestone, surrounded by a dark moat inhabited by monsters, guarded by Gul'dan himself, who is nearly immortal in his world, and an army of undead. Soon Excalibur starts to gather mysterious forces that eventually will open the portal.
There is no time to lose and Arthur calls the brave Knights of the Round Table. Leaving the defense of Camelot on the trustful hands of Sir Lancelot, he follows Merlin to Stonehenge, where the mage believes another portal can be opened for a short time.
When they arrive, Merlin enters the circle of stones alone. After a whole day reciting enchantments, he finally reaches his aim. The earth shakes and is torn by a red jolt of energy, that arises to the clouds and, out of control, engulfs the mage in a thundering cry. Arthur and his knights rapidly get to their horses and ride to the circle, where the energy column seems to materialize in blood, shaping the face of a tortured Merlin who hurries them. Arthur charges his reluctant horse into the strange portal, which becomes quickly thinner.
His senses vanish for a moment, and Arthur finds himself in a maze of dark walls that seem to reach bloody skies. Looking around, he sees only three men, and one has lost his horse. There is no trace of Merlin, but suddenly his voice is heard, weak, seemingly coming from nowhere. He was captured by a two-headed magical creature who wants to absorb his power. But he had another vision, where he found a way to defeat Gul'dan. Somewhere on that world, there is a white tower that houses the secrets of ancient spells. If he could find it and learn its mysteries... However, the tower is guarded by Zuljin, a multiple entity with incredibly deadly weapons.
Merlin cannot tell anything else, as his voices fades away under the whines of tormented souls. Arthur thinks that if he could find some of those men and give them some hope, maybe they could help him free Merlin, find the Mages Tower and retrieve Excalibur. Then it might be used to open the portal, but just for time enough for them to return to our world. In order to prevent the enemy from following them through the portal, their near presence should be eradicated.
Weird growls come from a dark corridor and Arthur Pendragon draws his sword, feeling a creep for having to fight such a terrible opponent with an ordinary weapon. The sound of footsteps approaches, while he prepares to face the most dreadful enemy he had ever met: the Cenobites.
