I think this song is very much the essence of Lestat. New Orleans has a permanant hold on on Lestat, and he presides over these grounds quite like a king. "Did you see him on the street? Did you pass him at your feet? Did you think at all, 'How dare they even look me in the eye?'" Sounds like a common, self-righteous Lestat thing to do/say. "Did you laugh at all when the people walked right by and said aloud, 'Gutter punks are all the same...'" Shows his contempt for the humans he passes on the street, as they think he's just another 'gutter punk', looking for fights and people to rob. "But you give him one more chance to try and see the beauty in his world..." Lestat let Louis have his last sunrise before giving him the Dark Gift.
