Here's the latest thrilling news from Lulu in England :

Would you believe it. We met the Queen 3 weeks ago for the Commonwealth Day celebration. Jeff was chosen by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat to carry the Commonwealth mace and escort the Queen at the ceremony at the Westminster Abbey. The mace,
which is like a sceptre, is made of pure gold with a ruby at the end and little Commonwealth flags (54 of them) around it. Also at the ceremony were Tony Blair, the Prime Minister, the leader of the
opposition, and assorted dignitaries from Commonwealth countries.

Jeremy and I were able to attend and Jeff and I were invited to the reception that night. The Sec Gen introduced us to the Queen who shook our hands and she asked Jeff if the mace was heavy. I was so thrilled to meet the Queen. I never thought I would meet her although I've seen her before in Beijing at a garden party at the British Embassy. She looks nicer in person - softer - than on TV or the newspapers where she often looks grim. Anyway, it doesn't change my opinion of the royals, they've had their days.

And here's the sad news from Australia:

Subject: Pep is in another world

Lizzie just called and said that Pep pass on to the next world.  I was
so shock to hear the news. I just spoke with her about  3 weeks ago. She
was happy and said she was in partial remission. We talked for a short
while.
She died in her sleep.  Funeral is this Thursday, April 16, 1998.

Take care - Nini

Goodbye, Pep, from all of us, and may you rest in peace.
