Martha Graham once said "Wherever a dancer
stands, that place is sacred."
If that is so, then Ateneo is holy ground. There isn't a
building where a CADs member hasn't , not only stood,
but probably danced.
We pride ourselves in our ability to engage in SOULPLAY
...spontaneous, effortless fun.
The Company of Ateneo Dancers is the first and only
organization in the Ateneo dedicated to the art of dance. It
came to life in 1994 and has since grown to become a well-
respected memeber of the Ateneo community. They can be found
performing for almost all activities sponsored by both the
administration and fellow organizations.
CADs is divided into four groups - Jazz, Ballet, Street and the
Creative Staff. Each, though different in practice, are all
dedicated to dancing excellence.
There is music coming from the Loyola Gym, the Sunken Gardens,
the Libsteps...and even in Berchman's late at night. There are sounds
of people counting to eight. Groans of pain. The squeak of sneakers.
And laughter. Especially laughter.
Who else could it be but the Company of Ateneo Dancers?
CADs strives for dancing excellence through rigorous work-out
sessions which often extend past the scheduled 3 hours. It was
hard work putting it all together for a performance. CADs knows
how to suffer for the art of dance, to hone their skills and
pursue perfection in their chosen craft.
But in
between the beats, there is someting about this org that implies
there is more to them than their name indicates. They see movies
together, go malling together, get drunk with each other, crash
at each others' places, they even hang out on campus together.

I was blessed to be a part of CADs
all four years of
college. It was going to work-outs everyday for a month
at least 4 hours a day to learn a 3 minute dance. It was staying
in school overnight to finish choreography. It was back-breaking
sweaty work that I looked forward to everyday. Because there's
something about dancing that frees your body...and your mind.
And there's something to be said about being w/ people who
understand your body's need to move to the music.
But it went far beyond dancing. There were nights
at Jay's drinking. And countless afternoons hanging out
at my place or at the Steps. Beach trips. Nights stargazing
in the field. Or tripping out at Tia Maria's. Much bonding.
On-stage, Backstage and Offstage I loved every minute of
being with the CADsters...check out the links to see why!
