Michigan Fiber Festival Scholarship Program
Susan B. Drummond Memorial Scholarships.

The board of the Michigan Fiber Festival has authorized the granting of a number of half-day and full day workshop scholarships. In memory of Susan Black Drummond, founder of Fiberfest, Michigan Fiber Festival's predecessor. Sue was active in arts and community education programs. To honor her memory, the membership and board wishes to help continue her work in education by establishing these scholarships, allowing recipients to learn new skills and pass their knowledge on to others.
Guidelines to Apply:
1. Applicants must be members of the Michigan Fiber Festival under individual or family membership.
2. Scholarships can be granted for the tuition of 2 half-day or 1 full day workshop. Recipients will pay their own material fees and bring any other required supplies need for workshops.
3. Applications are due on or before June 15, 1999. Applicants should list more than one workshop in order of preference, and attempts will be made to honor the first request.
4. An applicant may receive a scholarship only once in every five years unless the applicant can demonstrate extenuation circumstances which will be considered by the MFF board.
5. Each accepted application will be presented to the board by the scholarship chairperson for approval or denial.
6. The board will review annually the number of scholarships to be offered.
7. Applicants will be notified by letter or post card that their applications have been received, and scholarship winners will be notified in writing immediately following the board meeting at which scholarship decisions are made.
8 . Scholarships are non-transferable and must be used for the specific purpose for which they were awarded in that year.
9. Applicants apply for scholarships by writing a letter to the scholarship chairperson stating the purpose for applying. The letter must also include a statement on how he or she will share the information gained from the workshop (i.e., either by making a presentation to a local guild, school, group or writing an article for a local or national publication.)
10. Upon completion of the workshop and the sharing of the knowledge, the applicant is required to report to the MFF board in person or in writing telling what was learned from the workshop and how it will benefit other's.
11. Applications must be typed, computer generated, or neatly printed. The scholarship committee reserves the right to disqualify incomplete or illegible applications.
12. Scholarship recipients must agree that their photographs in the workshop setting may be used for publicity purposes.
13. Decisions of the Scholarship Committee and the Michigan Fiber Festival Board are final.
