It is believed that this portrait was sat in Niuliang's private garden. It is also believed that this was Xiang Niuliang's first sitting with Niuliang, hence the slight timidness of her character.
Fanny married Niuliang when she was 16 years old, and is the mother of his son Shiao "Jimmy" Niuliang.
