The Classical Page
Old, but good.
My experience with classical music is kind of limited. I've played the viola (it's like a violin only lower, okay?) for
about 8 years, but only as a hobby. Oh, and as a way of getting a few more credits
in school. I like almost all classical pieces that I hear, some more than others. I think one of the first pieces I ever heard was "In the Hall of the Mountain King". I remember it
because it used to make me think of all this monsters chasing after someone. Very stirring music... Anyway, here's a few MIDIs of classical pieces that verily rocked my world, so to speak.
- Canon in D - Pachelbel, 32.3 kb. Ever hear "Hook" by Blues Traveler? Recognize anything?
- Cataluna, Suite Espańola - Albéniz, 14 kb. I recommend listening to the other Isaac Albéniz MIDIs in the Classical MIDI Archives.
- The Harmonious Blacksmith - Handel, 26.5 kb. It has a very lilting melody, and thus do I enjoy it.
- Hungarian Dance - Brahms, 11 kb. We played this piece in orchestra class, and I wanted to hear what it sounded like played correctly.
- In the Hall of the Mountain King - Grieg, 51.7 kb. Even people who don't like classical music like this piece. It's *required*. It's the law.
Sonatina in G (Opus 79) - Beethoven, 56 kb. Hmmm... crack monkeys... Jesse Helms... man with wooden leg named Smith... no, I give up, I can't think up any witty commentary for this one. Sorry.
- Waltz of the Flowers, Nutcracker Suite - Tchaikovsky, 28.5 kb. We played this one in orchestra class too. I don't like to brag, but when we performed this one, it sounded bad. True story.
