Stay Tuned, page 9

Traffic on the expressway was down to a single lane. Milo fumed and cursed and cranked up the volume on the stereo. He was nearly to the end of the congested area. He looked for an End Construction sign, but didn't see one.
When, in the course of one of their high school joyrides, Geoff would spot one, he'd stiffen up in the seat and declaim, in a televangelist voice, "Yes, I say to thee, there shall be an end to construction, an end I tell thee, you will ride unimpeded down the Lord's highway, unhindered by potholes and patrolmen, unencumbered by hitchhikers, the lures of Satan."
Milo admired Geoff's love of language and his improvisational ability, but he did not share them and eventually came to see them as emblematic of the differences between them. He felt more and more that he was less a friend in Geoff's eyes than a pupil.
