LOUISIANA RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL 2000
Saturday, 4 November
The magick of Punch and Judy is still potent today, despite competition from television, videos and GameBoys. The story of "Saint George and the Dragon", for example, enthralled this young audience right through the climactic battle scene (Photo, right). They gravely accepted St. George at his word when he declared: "My strength is as the strength because my heart is pure!"; booed when the Dragon cowardly attacked the Good Saint not once but twice; and cheered loudly when our Hero ran his craven Opponent thru-and-thru! An authentic touch was this "hurdy-gurdy" (Photo, below), which provided music both before and after each performance. Very well done, indeed!
