Addict Stories from Fireflyers

and other Net Addicts

Bluegrass Rat:
Oh YEA!!! I Qualify!!! It- it was sooo bad!! I was FORCED to take a weekend vacation, and the place I was at had NO PC!! The longest weekend in my LIFE! I had Firefly withdrawl symptoms, y'know, staring at the TV set, pretending to type on an imaginary keyboard (They said it was really the VCR under the TV). All the time I was thinking *bleep* I got Bumped Again!!! I tried everything, butt the shakes just wouldn't stop! FINALLY I got home and forgot to put the car in park so I could run in and log on! Police finally found the car in Canada. That's OK! They can keep it!!! I've got my FIREFLY back! I LOVE YOU MAN!!! See Ya!!!

Phantom500:
Just last week at 1:30 pm, my ISP disconnected me and I got an error saying I had no dialtone. I called the phone company and was informed a severe short circuit in the phone lines. They said they would get a technician out by the next afternoon. Well, as you may guess, instant panic set in. *LOL* I went into instant lying mode and told them that that was unacceptable as I had an international conference call on-line in 5 hours and my business stood to lose thousands of dollars if it sdidn't happen. The tech switched me to a supervisor who said they would try to get a tech out right away. Needless to say, it didn't happen and I was without the net for 9 hours. I kept trying throughout the day to reconnect and I was shaking all day. Finally, without warning, 9 hours later, it fixed itself. I was flooded with relief.

Mogster:
I can't go passed a PC without getting on ffly....and I met and just recently married a fellow fflyer.....I am just a little more addicted than he is....*smile*...BTW, we are on our honeymoon right now...had to stop in to a college computer lab to get our fix...

Specific-Ocean:
I was SOOOO po'ed at them when it didn't work right!!.....and I almost never go anywhere else on the 'net EVER!....:)

StJohn369:
I'm not at all addicted to ffly...and if I didn't have so many messages to answer I'd tell you just how unaddicted I really am...hehehee...butt of course I'm too busy with messages to more fully answer your message about addiction stories!!! ;-)

Absolut_Chivas_Girl:
Hi there!!! Well let me see... one thing was that when I first started using firefly, and used the chat rooms all the time (buzz at the time!), I couldn't ever leave the chat rooms for more than a couple of minutes.... (I had just started a new job, in a newly formed department, so not a whole lot to do!) So in the process of a couple of weeks, I managed to lose 10lbs in weight, because all I could bear to do was go to the kitchen in the building I worked in and make some crispbreads with a bit of spread on, and go back to my desk... too busy typing to even pick it up!!! Great!

WingPhat:
My mother is a teacher at school, and I used to sneak out of class every day to her room and use the internet just to get on firefly. sometimes when I don't have mail i feel insecure and check it again. i can hardly sleep without checking my fly mail everyday. I'm almost always online if you want to contact me. hope these stories warn people of the addiciton power of firefly.

Shacia:
I first became aware that I was an addict when in one day I logged onto ffly at 9a.m. right after my family took my daughter for the day and I stayed here until 5a.m. the next morning. I didn't stop to eat or even just to rest my eyes. Then I slept for 2 hours and got up and immediately logged back on. : )

Reptile5:
This is how i'm on the computer. I come in and fight my mom for the computer and i win anways i cruise around ffly looking for new friends and i'm on for about 3 hours and 45 minutes and then i get off and then come back cruise around!

Fishingman000:
I am addicted to fly!!! I say this with my head hung down in shame and utter disbelief...I was raised as a level headed person who managed to keep from getting addicted to the normal addictions such as sex, drugs and rock&roll...But here I sit in front of a 102 key phone lined monster!!!!that is taking up all my wakeing hours!!! I should have seen the warning signs comming like my wife leaving me because of lack of attention or my dog dying from malnutrition I never had time to feed him!!!!!!I had just discoverd Fly!!!!!My worst incident happened a few months ago...It was a stormy night!!! But that didnt bother me I had my computer and I was on the net!!!Then all of a sudden out of the dark night sky came that crack of lightning and the long roll of thunder..in just that instant my power went out!!!There I was sitting in the dark....without my trusted friend, my confidant...the web........thats when a panic attack set in....my hands began to tremble.....What was I to do?Without thinking I got up put on my jacket and shoes and went out into the fierce rain storm walking aimlessley through dark rain soaked streets as fog started to blow across in front of me.....I seen it.....There in the distance....were my eyes deceiving me? as I drew closer my heart started pumping faster and faster,my stride picked up and before I knew it I was at a full paced run!!!!YES!!!!!!The 24 hour computer store was open and holding an internet demonstration....as iburst through the doors dripping wet I noticed that there was only one computer left that was hooked up to the net....as I made my way to thelast computer a little old lady she had to be 90 or so, sat down at my last hope to get back on the net!!!!! I couldnt take it anymore......I grabbed the little old lady and was going to take the computer away from her...thats when my common sense kicked in{and the 200 pound salesman}and made me relize I was wrong!!!! at that very moment I dropped to my knees and begged for forgivness!!!!as I begged the 200 pound salesman was kind enough to show me where the door was and politley asked me to leave{politley be dambed he threw me out on my ear} There I was back in the cold dark night with the rain beating down on me.....I started walking with my head still confused.... wandering with nowhere to go!!!!! Thats when I noticed...that one of the houses had lights on!!!! I looked around and I seen another house all in brightness....Could this be possible? Could my house have the power back on? I rushed down the dark street and rounded the corner on to my street,I looked up at my house...it's still in darkness!!!!!! My heart sank deep into my chest! Then I remembered that I had shut the lights off before I went out!!!!Is it possible that I had power? I raced up the stairs to my front door and started fumbling through my pockets looking for my keys.....I relized I had locked myself out of the house!!!It took every bit of strength I had left but I managed to kick the door down!!!!I went inside and nervously tried the light switch.....To my amazement the light came on!!!I rushed to the computer throwing my jacket in a heap in the corner, my shoes went flying somewhere...to this day I havent found them!!!I sat at the computer and turned it on...the sound of it booting up was music to my ears!!!!Well Thats my worst incident...I hope it never happens again!!! To stop it from happening again I have bought a gas powered generator just in case of a power shortage...I am also trying to figure some way of hooking my notebook computer to a cell phone....so I can leave home and take the net with me!!!....I thank you for starting a page to help us addicted fly members...... Yours truly, Fishingman000 :)

I once got up at 6:00am in the morning and didn't eat all day. I stated on till 10:00pm that night. Another time I told mum I was going to check my messages and it would only take 5 mins. I stayed on it for 5 hours

CrystalD:
I just wanted to let you know that due to my ffly addiction I am now married to my ffly love... REDROCKER98 .... So how does that grab you! We have been happily married since May 10th!

MiSharona:
I'm a Mac user with no experiences with a PC. When I took a trip for business this week, I couldn't STAND to be outa touch, so I borrowed a laptop. All I could get was a Compaq Presario, so I taught MiSelf DOS and Windows on the flight to Omaha. Some people will do ANYTHING for their fix!

Bizzy_Bone:
i do get up in the middle of the night to get on here.i remember one time i got up at 3:00 in the morning cuz i couldnt sleep so i got on here and i stayed on until 8:00 in the morning.i really cant keep away from this place and im glad i cant!

Webcowboy:
The Webcowboy here can't get enough of Ffly online in his free time so he's buying a license for his corporation. He'll be on nearly 24 hours a day between the two places.

tommy pull my finger:
I need help, or just a portable rubber room (with unlimited access, of course). I've been a member for a while, and kinda grew out of ffly, but it is still stuck in my brain. I can't really do as much with the page as I can with my other pages, but I still try to get here to do a little "upkeep". I just found out that angelfire.com has set up individual e-mail accounts for their page holders, and I didn't even try to get that one. I guess you could say that I am working on the net even when i am not online! The net has engraved itself into my BRAIN!

Colleen!:
As a recovering ffly addict I would like to testify to all ffly addicts that there IS hope...in the spring of '96 I discovered ffly and the rest of my life came to grinding halt...thank goodness I am a teacher and had the summer off otherwise I would surely have lost my job! At the height of my addiction I had quite literally moved into my computer room, which was small enough I could actually reach out and turn on the modem before getting out of bed in the morning! I am happy to say that one and half years later I have recovered to the point that I have actually found the time to give birth ( and of course for the necessary preliminaries to that end;)...*sigh*...alas, the computer room is now a nursery, and the PC has been relegated to the basement. I do still find time to sneak down here though, and have gotten pretty good at typing one handed while rocking my little future ffly addict! :)

mtnbkr:
as for my story.. which one.. well this winter I went to Colorado to visit my mom for a month, and they didn't have a local server, so I ended up racking up a $160 phone bill dialing in long dist to my server, and cursing the old lines where she lived 'cause I was only getting a 14.4 connection *L*
