In search of me, somewhere out there, somewhere in time
I remember people I've known, faces smiling, words that rhyme
Faces I've seen, but cannot hope to name
Hearts I've touched, places I've been, and I'm not the same
Questions burning inside me have no real answers it seems
But still, I travel on, carried on these sweet moonbeams
Chancing a taste of honeysuckle flowers on the way
Combined with the realizations, in the ever-changing night and day
Daydream? Perhaps, but I somehow know there is more
To this endless dreaming of the beautiful call of the emerald shore
A red haired woman I see in my mind, I know only as Josephine
Humming, picking flowers, walking places I know I've been
She's stronger than me, wiser, smarter, and far more sweet
She's prettier than me, taller, with freckles and smaller feet
But we share the same heart and passions, and far more than that
I wonder sometimes, when I sit on the grass, do I sit where she sat?
Her voice was clear and strong, and she sang so beautifully
Our songs are quite different though, she sang of longing to be free
With her long red tresses blowing in the blessed celtic wind
She looked out over the oceans, longing only for a friend
In her green eyes there were tears, but sometimes tears of joy
For she also had a love, her own special darling boy
She loved licorice and lavender, and sunrises and sunsets, too
Her favorite flowers were lilies, in a deep, warm rosey hue
I know that I've held her hand before, walking meadows of deep green
Laughing like sisters, teasing, pretending to be mean
Her essence still lives here, I sometimes see her shadowed face
She's always smiling, calling me home, to another time and place
For My Irish Sister
