ah, KoRn. I detest the vegetable, but love the band.

KoRN is like nothing you will ever hear. They're at the forfront of a new musical revolooution of metal music...a sound so new and exciting that it doesn't even have a name. This ecclectic infusion of Metal, punk, rap and hip hop has been described as New Metal or Neuveau metal, and contains such bands as Coal Chamber, the Deftones and Limp bizkit, but KoRn, man, they're the granpappys of the whole thing.

I got into them after a friend of mine, Andria, (more on her later) got into them in grade 11. She was interested in rilly loud music, and saw their name scribbled on the science binder of the Manson Freak sitting next to her. She went to the record store, listened to the album and loved it. After hearing it in her car a millon times, I started to really like KoRn, so I got their two albums, Life is Peachy, and Korn. After a while, Andria got sick of them, and stopped listening to their albums, but I liked them more and more and more. Something about their sound just grabs me tight and tingles my spine. As I slide into the sound on the stereo I shut my eyes and tears almost start to form. The beutiful mix of Feildy's signature thwaping, twanging bass, Head and Munkey's experimental grinding, sreaching, melodious guitars, David's tireless drums...and Jonathan's Voice. I get shivers whenever Jonathan Davis wispers things. His howl can go from a soul eating scream to an orgasmic moan to a beutiful soft, breathy wisper. Often in the same tune. His lyrics are all 100% life, and he lives them on every song. The first time I ever heared their album, KoRn, I listened to him burst into frustrated tears at the end of "Daddy", and felt so disturbed. I've never heard such reality and passion in a song before. "Daddy" (a little diddy about The sexual abuse Jon endured as a child) has only been performed live once. On "Life is Peachy", "Kill you" retains that same torment. I love the bagpipes they stick in songs like "Snakes and Ladders", one of my absolute favorite songs.

Since my parents are a little naieve, They've never heard my KoRn. They know I listen to them, but for all they know, KoRn is the same as Jonny Cash. I only listen to them in my room, in my car or when they're not home. I also listen to KoRn every time I go snowboarding. Actually two times, I went snowboarding and forgot to bring my walkman. Consiquently, I couldn't listen to KoRn. If you want to know the horrendous things that happened to me then, read my snowboarding essay. Let's just say, I never go snowboarding without listening to KoRn before hand. The bottom line is: Their music can be so powerful that it makes me cry, and so exiting that it makes me go into seziures.

Jonathan Davis. Smell the sincerity.
