Hopeful Signs

"Victor said to not contact him first (he should contact me), it's some sort of weird territorial upper hand thing. Apparently the first one to lose the upper hand is the one who's first to talk about it. You have to appear unobsessed and in control until a few days pass, and then it's okay to be first." -Me, yesterday
Hmmm, I wonder which one of us broke in this case?

I've spent an entertaining day with Sarah- getting books, looking for our classrooms, looking for cute guys, watching movies, shopping, etc. And going on and on and on incessantly about guys. I was maybe worse than usual, griping stuff. "Man, I just hope I don't fall for him...since I normally do it so fast, maybe I'll be okay?" Sarah said no, you'll do it. I started whining in agony. She said to keep it casual and then dump him like guys do to us. Basically we were all guy-chasy. She wanted to look for her old cute TA's office, she suggested I do something similar (no, I didn't).

Sarah'd had this crush on an English guy in engineering last year, and she thought she found his e-mail and sent him something...and she checked e-mail here incessantly hoping he'd write. He didn't. I checked e-mail/newsgroup as often for the same reason (albeit different person). And surprise, things moved along today.

First, I checked e-mail (working, but nothing from him) and newsgroup this a.m. He'd posted there though, and I put up a response to it. At least, that's what I thought.

Doomed, schmoomed, who cares? Everyone'll be busy partying anyway.

Ohmigod, BILL????
Jennifer
I check e-mail again later, and find this. I swear to God, it was an accident. I did not notice this...See why I wonder who broke? Me, I think?

You know you mailed this instead of posting, right? :)

Ooops. Nope, I didn't. (Wondered why it didn't come up on ng though...)

Somehow that's not surprising.

Nope. So, what'cha up to? Getting ready for classes?

I thought perhaps it was intentional... :)

Not really. Other than buying books today, Sarah and I have been roaming around Petco staring at
the lizards/mice/hamsters/birds/fish and whining about how we want some, checking e-mail (she's
expecting something) and talking on the phone. In other words, goofing off until she goes off to
join the Army or something tonight... What are you up to?

Yep, it was. The two most feared Bills in the civilization (if you can call it that), we can't be
exactly sure which of 'em is the Antichrist yet, I think...probably Gates, 'cause he can screw up
all our computers and then AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

What are you up to?

Uh, going out to Rumsey to get some of the enormous amount of crud filling
my apartment out of it. But I'm free tomorrow, if you'd like to go do
something... :)

Oh my god. I'm so excited. No, I haven't responded yet... I spend all friggin day talking about him (for example: we parked by Green Planet today, I went on about that. We drove by somewhere he mentioned, I went on about that. Just on and on. Sarah was doing the same thing, we were probably the only ones who could tolerate each other!) and how I wanna hear from him and inwardly hoping he wants to get together (well, duh, he probably does!), and I get what I want, and a few minutes later my stomach is dropping. Well, I do want to see him. But my stomach started dropping when I thought of well, how things could go...without parental interference.

And once again, I'm thinking "Ai yi yi, I'm gonna go nuts!"

The old heart's pumping, and it's not from nervousness over school...boing, boing, boing... maybe I'll wait for Sarah to come back before I respond (she's thinking about being in Army Reserves and went to an interview). No, that's an excuse, I should just say it... yes, and where? Hmmm. Wonder what he wants to do? What is there to do when I have school tomorrow morning? Unfortunately, early? Movie? In Davis, what else is there to do? I am soooo going to get into trouble...

Sure... =) I'm free after two or so (my class schedule is kinda odd), I think, so...what's there
to do in Davis on a weekday? Movies probably. Any suggestions either way?
Jennifer

1:24 a.m. Yep, I'm still up. Sarah came in just as I found this e-mail from Remington and was responding to it.

Uh, movies are good. Smoothies are good. Other stuff is good, too. By
the way, do you have my Davis phone number? It's (#). And my
Rumsey number is (#). But I'm not either of those places right now,

Yeah, had that somewhere. For once I was good about writing down numbers in my phone book and not
on papers that get thrown around my desk.

  And my

You check e-mail _everywhere_, don't you? =)

>you're up and bored and want to call me...

Well, if I'm home (we were supposed to go over to my ex-neighbor's after Sarah gets back from the
recruiter thing, but well, it's 9:20 and she's not home, so who knows what's going on), I'll
see...I should be going to bed early if I have class at 9 (waaaah!), but, well, yeah right,
probably not! I'll try if I'm home and up and stalling around.
Jennifer
Isn't that cute? He was checking e-mail at someone else's house just to see if he heard from me? Awwww.

Didn't happen...wound up being at the guys' for hours. Mike brought a blender back, so therefore he and Sarah want to have a drinking party on Friday night. Well, party in like there will probably be 4-5 people there...(ah, engineering nerds) and they got into fighting over who to invite. Mike wanted to fix Sarah up with some friend of his, Brian, and she wasn't so sure, and it went on for awhile...Mike wants to tell Brian that there's two available women there. I am not pleased with that, as I don't remember this guy as being cute and I don't care to be fixed up. Yes, the idea of Remington being invited came up. I'm not sure if I want to do that...my friends are more uh, juvenile than his friends...and well, why get 'em all attached? Well, get Sarah all attached, she's pretty psyched here. Then again, since she's decided to join the military she's psyched about everything! I said I'd think about it. I mentioned it to Remington in an e-mail (later, folks), we'll see if he has any comments on it and go from there, I guess. Well, I met his friends, so...

Anyway, I was going to attempt to call him at midnight...however, due to drinking party fighting I didn't get back until about 12:35. I called...it rang four times...and no, I didn't leave a message, I thought "Oh, he probably went to bed by now" and hung up. Juvenile, I know. So I check e-mail and found one from him.

}>Uh, movies are good. Smoothies are good. Other stuff is good, too.

Hmm. Maybe ice cream, then? :) Or, more sensibly, hot chocolate for you,
and coffee for me. :) Or, if you like Greek food, there's a pretty good
restaurant of that type here.

Good point...problem with the papers-on-the-desk theory is that a. the papers REALLY pile up and
I don't necessarily go through them, and b. sometimes they migrate to the trash. Or I just find
it months later, look at the paper, go "Whose number is that??? and toss it. Which I think
is what I did to almost everyone's phone number in the last quarter or so, unless it was on
e-mail, in which case I can _eventually_ find those people's. Oh well, I manage to find my
current phone book pretty easily. It only takes about five minutes of frantic "Oh shit, I lost
it!" to find where I threw it. =)

That doesn't mean
>I'm supposed to have your number somewhere, does it? :)

I don't remember if I mentioned it or not...it's (yes, I finally had to cave. Ya think that was a
hint? "I'm pumped, let the phone torture begin."), but I'll warn you that I don't check
the voice mail as often as the e-mail (very pathetic, I know... I'm trying to improve that...but
mostly I forget to check and then when I try to call somebody and hear the phone beeping- "oh,
oops." The computer is more, I dunno, _obvious_ somehow).

Military. She now wants to join the army reserves because they'll pay for many many things and
she'll get to wear the "cute" uniform/shoes/hat, and get to play with machine guns and troll on
military men. That it'll piss off her hubby is probably an extra benefit.

No kidding. =( Although it beats when I had drama at 8 am...on the farthest end of campus...in an
unheated building...and she made us lie on the floor at the start of class...and then wondered
why people were falling asleep...

I'm just wondering why one of my friends was whining so much about having to go to class, when
his first one is at 2. Grrrrrr.

Which days? Just MWF, or all
>of them, or what?

Unfortunately it worked out to be ALL of them. Waaaah! Basically I had a choice between 9 am
every day and a manageable finals schedule (i.e. so I could actually have a full week off and a
few more days for spring break), or later on and finals on the last day. Did that last year, it
was awful, not repeating it.

Well, I wound up getting home way later than I expected to (so much for "we're only coming over
for ten minutes!")...they started planning this Friday night drinking bash and it got into fights
over what kinds of booze to bring and who to invite (even more complicated than the booze,
apparently, even though there'll probably be more booze types than people at the event), and it
got uh, interesting. =)

Hahahahahahhaha!!! Ain't that the truth? (So, Jerry, why haven't you moved to Canada yet?...)
Jennifer
I should mention here that I felt kinda embarrassed for not leaving a message or something, so I was trying to insinuate that I got home later than that and the phone call wasn't me...for some insane compulsive reason I hit check e-mail after sending the last one and found he sent me another one...caught!

Did you just try to call, at about 12:40ish? Sorry, I was on the other
line and didn't get to it fast enough. Somehow, everyone knew to call me
at midnight... :)

Oh, that's what it was? I figured on about the fourth ring or so "Oh, he probably went to bed or
something by now." Then I thought "I should go to bed." Then I thought "Well, I'll just check
e-mail first..." and am still up at 1:20 in the morning after doing all that writing back!

Well, if you _tell_ people to call you then...maybe they actually will?
