One Night in the Living Room

My Soap-Operatic Life

"We should do everything within reason to save a good relationship. But if we are constantly trying to save it, it's probably not a good relationship." Javan

I'm currently writing this at 1:16 a.m. (Yes, I'm a night owl) to discuss what went on tonight.

Tonight Lisa and I went next door to borrow a movie from the guys. There was a whole bunch of them around (Kevin and Adrian- guess they're back) gambling in there. We borrowed "2 Days in the Valley."

Jen's Movie Review- 2 Days in the Valley

This is kinda cool in that it takes a bunch of little elements and mixes them together.

1. Dosmo (Danny Aiello) and Lee (James Spader- incredibly creepy here! will shoot anybody!), the hit men hired by Olympian Teri Hatcher to bump her ex off in a way so that she's innocent of the whole thing (they drug her, then shoot the guy in her bed. Nice way to wake up). Lee tries and fails to kill Dosmo and frame him for the whole thing. Oh, and there's also Helga, Lee's fiancee, who he thinks slept with the ex-husband.

2. As Dosmo tries to escape, he runs into the home of Allan the asshole and his lovely assistant Susan the Italian chick. There's some sparks flying . . . Dosmo likes Susan and hates Allan (but who wouldn't?).

3. Then there's suicidal Teddy who tries to pawn his adorable dog off (before committing suicide) on Allan's sister the nurse.

4. And there's Eric Stoltz the wannabe detective (cute here . . . especially when getting massaged!) and his psycho partner Jeff Daniels (obsessed over nailing a massage parlor that gives handjobs. Sheesh).

They all come together, and it's very interesting. Even though I kept wincing every time Lee killed somebody else (I HATED that guy!).

The verdict: Two thumbs up from L & J.

Anyway, after that we were discussing classes (she wants to take my poetry class now, can't decide which class to drop), stuff like that . . . anyway we got into guys again. I said I hadn't found anybody else, although I was proud of myself for a. not calling The Moron, and b. sending that e-mail (Lisa is one of the millions who wants me to break up with him), although I'd like to meet some guys who aren't science guys or too old (Pool Boy, the other guy I dated here).

A little background info on Lisa- she had a boyfriend in Arizona, decided to break up with him in January (long distance- of course (sigh) ) . . . and now she says she's thinking of getting back together with him. I said to go for it, because if the attraction keeps coming back, then you might as well stick it out (hence the quote above). I guess I just want them to get together because a. if someone finds "The One" they shouldn't have to end it because of distance (past history getting in the way), and b. I like seeing people being able to handle long-distance relationships despite the odds (again, past history). However, she also said that she's really not having fun here and wants to transfer back East next year. Bummer. I said I'd miss her, and she said "well, there's always e-mail." True . . . then again I haven't heard from Sarah lately either. Or anyone else with hotmail (ahem).

We also got onto how my parents are psycho (see yesterday's post). She said I did really well to come out this normal being raised like that. Depends on your opinion there, I guess. It's always funny when I tell people who were raised by normal parents the stuff mine pull- they are completely horrified. And I'm just used to it. Sad.

On some other stuff: First, here's some stuff I found in the Sacramento News and Review that I meant to put up yesterday and forgot. Yes, it's horoscopes, and no, I normally do not believe in them. But these were so on the $ that I felt I had to share.
Taurus: (my horoscope) According to Edward Hirsch, writing in The American Poetry Review, the French poet Robert Desnos was like a tender saint during his imprisonment at the Buchenwald concentration camp. He "floated through the ranks of the doomed prisoners . . . telling fortunes, encouraging people awaiting the gas chambers by opening their palms and predicting future happiness and long life." I bring this up, Taurus, in an effort to inspire your optimism during this year's version of the dark night of the soul. (Ain't that the truth.) After all, your sorrows are not even a billionth as acute as Desnos'. Surely you can find a way to play happy even as you acknowledge the sacredness of your pain. (Well, I don't know about that.)

Capricorn: (The Moron's horoscope) Have you been fantasizing about taking a time out? Do you wish you had more breathing room? Can you imagine yourself disappearing for a while from the frenzied pace so you could craft the long-overdue changes that would make your groove more rhythmic and less dissonant? I sincerely hope you've answered yes to these questions, Capricorn. The cosmos is practically begging you to sedate that part of your psyche the Zen Buddhists call the monkey mind. (NO KIDDING! . . . although I'm wondering what a "monkey mind" is) Nothing would be better for the health of your long-term ambitions than a slow, relaxed cruise through the emptiest spaces you can find.

Also, while I was on the Internet, I found a few sites that I found to be very interesting (check below). Yes, they're soaps . . . but I was enjoying them. To the point of now wanting to try my own soap. I'm sure this is another one of my ideas that I'll start on, be distracted by other stuff, and never finish . . . but right now I like it. I think I'll call it "Oxford Circle" a. because it's my current address, and b. it just sounds so damn cool. Maybe I'l work on that tomorrow instead of doing my homework. (Oh yeah, putting stuff off already.)
It's now 3:13 p.m. I went out to get the mail, and here's what I found:

1. Some tapes I ordered.
Just a little off-topic rant- if you ever get the urge to join BMG Music Service- take it easy and don't order so much stuff, okay? I've received three bills in the past three days, none of which I can pay really due to my checking account being empty, I only have cash, and I'm getting yelled at every time I use the credit card. Ick! I gotta stop this! (end of rant)

2. A notice saying that I had a huge amount of meals left on my meal plan (bad news). The good news- at the end of the year it turns out that all unused meals are converted into Munch Money (by using your id card as a credit card, you get $75 each quarter to pay for food at certain places on campus, I love it!).

3. And speaking of Munch Money, I also found out that I have a huge amount of that also. Which is a good thing, since I'm going to have to eat lunch on campus every single day this quarter.

And the good news . . .
4. I got a letter saying that because of my good grades fall quarter (too bad they didn't keep up- sigh) I got a $100 prize!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!

And on another topic . . . today's Web surfing led me to these two quotes from sites that I found appropriate. Unfortunately I no longer remember where I found them:

"i was just reading this again, and it got me thinking. i hope that i keep in touch with her. she needs to make the first move on that though (she's got all my info, but didn't give me anything). i really don't want to never hear from her again. i mean, i did go out with her for a year...my senior year in highschool...one of the better years of my life to date. i just think it would be really shitty to never talk to her again."

"As far as Dennis goes, I have realized (thanks to long talks with Chris, who gives good advice) that it's really his friendship I am craving and missing. As far as more than that goes, I have moved on to other involvements. He made his decision and I accepted it. And probably he is just extremely busy and doesn't realize how much time has gone by since we talked...he has a tendency to be absent-minded that way. In which case, when things calm down he will get in touch with me. If he IS ignoring me, then to hell with him. If he's the kinda guy who would run out on a friend when things got tough, he is not who i thought he was, he is nothing like me, and i don't need friends like that."

I've been having a hard time getting certain sites up today, and my message boards are empty (sigh)- so I looked at some other stuff (figure I might as well while I have the freedom and time).

After hours of trying, I have finally figured out how to put pictures on the site! Hooray!!!! And now you can go back and check the pictures that I've added in on the other entries, as well as the rest of the site.

I was also looking through other online diaries, which were interesting . . . some are better, clearly written, than others. I wanted to add on to the site I was checking (see below), and maybe I'll go back and do it now that I've got this figured out.
