Scheduling and Shopping

My Soap-Operatic Life

"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something." -Jackie Mason
My day can be divided up into two parts:

1. Scheduling. I am trying to come up with some class to take in the fall (my next scheduling time is 8 a.m. on the 9th. What is it, a conspiracy to force me to wake up early every day of September?). The easy science class I wanted to get into is, naturally, closed. So what to do?

I was going to try to have Fridays off this quarter, even if it meant that I didn't get to take a textile class I should take because it's Monday-Tues-Wed-Fri (why not Thursday? Makes no sense!). However, since I can't get into the other class I wanted, it seems pretty inevitable that I will wind up with some Friday class (everything left seems to run MWF, at 8 or 9 am!) after all. So, should I drop beginning poetry (which I really don't need) and take the textile class if it's still open? That's Question #1.

Question #2 is what else should I take. Realistically, I should take either one more science class (so I'd have GE out of the way), or some English class. However, the four science classes are these:
Biology 10: Bio for Non-Majors Reasons to take: Hopefully not too hard, since it's for non-majors. Mentioned doing heredity, something I'm interested in. Reasons not to take: I hated high school bio, and it's at 8 a.m. MWF. Ick ick ick.
Geology 32: Volcanoes Reasons to take: Volcanoes are cool. It's the only non-morning science class. Does not appear to have a final (which probably means it's on the last day of class or something). Reasons not to take: All-night labs. I wanted to avoid taking labs in college if I could help it, since I hated them in high school also (somehow they never worked the way they were supposed to.) I picture my grade going down the toilet.
Plant Bio 11: Plants and the Biosphere Reasons to take: Hopefully not that hard, since it's for non-majors. Reasons not to take: MWF 9 a.m. Has a field trip on a weekend, and I'd rather have my weekends free (not to mention that I can't get there with no car anyway). Have a black thumb and basically no interest in plants.
Plant Bio 12: Plants and People Reasons to take: Does not appear to have a final. Hopefully not too hard? Reasons not to take: MWF 9 a.m., still have no interest in plants.

I'll probably just take something in English. Whatever fits, I guess. Although I am kinda annoyed that all the English classes seem to be offered at the same time as the advanced writing ones. If I got into advanced writing I'd drop whatever I was taking. However, since you don't find out if you got in or not until right before the class starts(!), and naturally all the English classes I signed up for are on the opposite end of campus . . . I picture myself running around and being extremely late to my signed-up classes if I don't get into writing (which is probably what will happen, I'm only a sophomore). And no, I found out today, there is no earlier way to find out. Gee, thanks, teachers.

The second part of my day: Shopping: We went out in the afternoon looking for some shirts, shorts, and a cheap bathing suit/coverup/what have you for Hawaii, mistakenly believing that there would still be a few out there at the end of August.

Ha ha!!!!!!!!!

Here's how the trip went: (Warning to guys: Just skip this whole thing, it's not gonna interest you.)

Mervyn's Bathing suit search: Found a few tops and bottoms of bikinis, none matching each other- it's apparently a new style called "mix and match." Problem is, no top looks even remotely good with any bottom. No tank suits left either.
Other clothes search: Found one possible tank top, but not that thrilling, moved on.

Ross Bathing suit search: Even worse than Mervyn's, all the tops and bottoms were 13's or so. Found one matching bikini I could wear, but it was kinda ugly. I was getting nostalgic for Mervyn's.
Other clothes search: Bought one large red winter coat, one dark blue velvet dress, one dark red velvet dress (I love velvet), one bright blue blouse. None of which have anything remotely to do with Hawaii, I have tons of coats, and nowhere to wear the dresses. But . . . well, they were gorgeous. Haven't mentioned them to Dad yet.

Target Bathing suit search: Bikini's were terrible- all the bottoms were red or pink or something like that, and all the tops were green or blue . . . not even remotely close to match this time. However, there were a few large or ugly tank suits, and one gorgeous blue tank. Guess which one I bought finally.
Other clothes search: Bought one pair of green shorts and matching T-shirt, plus one pair of blue pants whose only outstanding characteristic is their large pockets. I love large pockets. Did tell Dad about these purchases.

(Okay guys, you can come back now.)

One more thing: While driving back from the stores, my mom says out of the blue "Do you want me to drive by (The Moron)'s house?" I go "No, I'd just flip it off anyway." We have to drive by his block (behind his house) to get back into town, and as it turned out, his mother's car had been right in front of us. Containing what appeared to be his mother and brother, although neither of us can swear to it. Creeped me out for a bit there! Mom said, "I don't think he was in the car." I don't think so either, and not like any of them have seen our new car, but I still hope they didn't see me. I'm sure I'm persona non grata around their place.
