9/20- 'Round The Island

My Soap-Operatic Life

Today we did about one thing: went on a driving tour of Oahu. It was interesting- the drivers (we had two) were funny and entertaining. We first went up the westward (wet) side of the island (pretty and green, but WAY windy and kinda damp), then went up the middle to the Dole plantation area again. There was a plantation next to it with two buffets- one Chinese, one American. And no, you could not have both.

Frankly, the food was... not good. I was sorry I was hungry. And I chose the American buffet- mistake. I sampled off the parents' Chinese food, it was only slightly better. It was a place that trained people to cook in restaurants- but I guess they hadn't learned much. I know it's rude of me to criticize in this case, but still...

Mom had signed us up to go to Waimea Falls park- GREAT botanical gardens, great birds. I took a picture of two peacocks together on the way in. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera on the way down when I saw SIX peacocks, very close to me. Two were babies. Aaaaaaaaaargh!

Working on my record of seeing a hula show a day, I went to their show. Unfortunately it was kinda dull and I cut out early to see the diving show- not much to it really, but it improved. Mom made me get a photo with the wet divers- total cheesecake!

After the trip, Mom and I snuck out to go to Waikiki Beach- it is really nice, and I didn't see any fish! Then we went to King's Village (a really awesome shopping center, it's all kinda built up on top of each other in a really cool way I can't describe), where Mom took my picture with another man- a wooden soldier. (It's a collection)

I saw this beautiful dress in a store and went in to gaze at it. The owner let me try it on, and it looked gorgeous. While I was changing, Mom was talking to the lady, and it turned out that not only had her daughter gone to Davis, we had the same first name. She was really pleased, and we all started talking for awhile, really hit it off. The dress turned out to be $55 (my mouth dropped open), but she said she'd let us have it for $30. By this point we kinda felt obligated to get the dress, and it was a really good deal... Mom chipped in $10 Dad gave her, and there went my last $20.

Tonight we ate leftovers from the last few nights (whoopee), then did nothing. I gotta get to writing all the postcards I bought.
