Sunday, November 9, 1997 -- LadyDawn

It's too bad there aren't any cement blocks around here to bang my head against.... LadyDawn arrived soon after I got home on Friday. Azura, thankfully, wasn't far behind her. She was originally going to work until 11, but then she was getting off at 4, then wound up working until 7. OK, whatever.

We ate out at a cool Italian place called Portofino's, and just generally talked. Then I went home and tried to configure X on my linux machine. I'd spent the whole day downloading the thing, after all. My first hard drive has begun developing bad blocks, and several of the X install files were on them, so I had to download them again. And still I just get a black screen of Death whenever I run X. So I gave up on that for awhile.

On Saturday, we headed out shopping. Our goal? Buy a wedding dress, or at least, find one. There is a little wedding shop on the road I live on. I was a little worried about it, not really sure if it was a 'quality' shop or not, given it's location. I need not have worried. This place has been there nigh on forever, and the lady who runs the place has been there as long, I'd imagine.

See this place used to be in a good location, just off a major road, and easy to get to. It's still off of Independence Blvd, but "you can't get there from here" anymore. Azura went into the bridal room while LadyDawn and I looked at invitations. Not long after, Azura pulled LadyDawn into the back to see the dress she'd found.

Now, I've never seen this mystery dress. LadyDawn says it's good, and Azura loves it, so we'll go on that. It's pre-owned, so it's not frightfully expensive, which is a bonus, but if Azura likes it, that's the main thing. I'll tell you what I think about it in March.

We also found a style for the attendant's dresses that we liked, we'll probably order it when comes to that time. [We're supposed to be doing that now, but the Maid of Honor comes up here in December, that'll probably be the day.]

That completed all the necessary shopping we had to do, and it wasn't even lunch time yet. So, we decided to eat and carry on with the unnecessary shopping.

We went over to Lupie's to get some chili. I took my parents there back on Father's Day, and Dad admitted that their chili might be hot. My chili (the next step down in heat) was also hot then, but this time it was just mild. I was disappointed. There was no bite to it at all. I know it's different every day at Lupie's, next time I'll just ask the relative strengths.

We headed for Carolina Place Mall and generally showed LadyDawn around Charlotte. [Why is it every time someone visits we go shopping?] Azura bought some incense, and a wedding pillow cross stitch pattern. And that was about it.

We went home and I started work on the computer again. LadyDawn watched me for awhile, but eventually gave up. I don't blame her, I was very frustrated. Windows95 wouldn't install either version, formatting the hard drive however, as first or second drive..nothing. Whenever it would setup my hard drive, it would write some files and then poof the whole thing was gone.

I eventually gave up and we went to rent movies. We wanted to watch The Saint on Pay-per-view, but our phone number wasn't set up in TimeWarner's Database, so we couldn't. Of course, it was all checked out at the video store. So, we got Liar, Liar!, which I'd seen with mom over Mother's day, and Michael that'd I'd decided to see.

Michael was ok. I guess I expected more than a romance out of it, something more...dunno. Just seemed weak to me. I don't dislike romances, and if I'd have known that's what it was, I probably would have felt differently.

LadyDawn left this morning, not too long after she woke up. Azura played Final Fantasy VII while I tried to figure out my Windows Install Problems. I eventually gave up, and played FF7 for the rest of the afternoon. I got pretty far, and finally figured out what I was doing...so I died a lot less.

Somehow Sunday just slipped away into that place all lazy Sundays go. I imagine it's near the island of mismatched socks, but closer to horizon, so the sunsets are nicer.
