Community Outreach
Stitching Supplies
In the last two years we have sent supplies to Hurricane Katrina victims and troops stationed in the Gulf region.
If you would like to help, you can donate stitching kits (pre-made or charts with threads/needles), charts, threads and other stitching supplies.
Shelter Support
Closer to home, travel-sized toiletries are donated to local women’s shelters.
These can be unused hotel shampoos, conditioners, soaps and other toiletries as well as purchased items like toothbrushes and hair clips.
Afghans for Angels
This program was originated and managed by Ruth Thill in Britt, Iowa. Afghans for Angels is a growing volunteer program that makes baby blankets for local hospitals as a gift to parents who have suffered the loss of their newborn child. These blankets are placed lovingly around the infant angel when held by their families for the brief time in which they said their hellos and sad good-byes. The parents are given these blankets to take home in remembrance of their child. Nothing will take the pain away for these families, but knowing that someone cared enough to make a special blanket for their precious child is certain to provide comfort. If you are interested in participating in this program, here are a few suggestions:
- Blankets can be knitted, crocheted, quilted, or purchased and creatively decorated.
- They need be no larger than two foot square, but larger or smaller are welcome.
- Baby colors and delicate patterns are suggested
any extra special touches are welcome such as tiny ribbons woven through the border.
