We all have something of a dark side to us, don't we? This piece was originally done as a plot to hit up some of our favorite concert venues for some T-shirt & poster business, in this case, the Limelight, a now defunct dance club that used to be located in this creepy church... Oops! Make that a recently aquitted of drug charges & reopened rave club,... but instead, these two kids found their way onto the backs of shirts for the Island Screenworks grand opening Halloween party in October of 95. The weird thing was that I originally rendered the piece in full color, & when it was converted to B & W for print production, I liked it better!

The Hard Rock Cafe turns out to be something of a disappointingly conservative group to work for! I'm sure all my punk rock friends are snickering & saying that they told me so, but I was all ready to blow up & bust a move on some of my most intense vein popping, muscle bulging, ass kicking skinhead monsters, but no, the eco friendly hippies wanted low testosterone pretty environmental designs... ah, it was a good way to brush up on my KPT Bryce anyway...

One of many piece I did for Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Florida. Ironically, after busting my ass, slaving away at sweat shops all across the state that looks like it's pissing on Cuba, I land a very nice art director's position at a state of the art facility 900 miles away in Myrtle Beach, & what happens? This damned beast followed me up there, I was one of the first projects I had to work on in my new digs! Funny how your past always finds ways of haunting you.

Despite the fact that I'm so in love with my Monster Mac & digital imagery, I feel that it's safe to say that I still have a great proficiency for illustration & drawing. This is a pen & ink piece I did for my old school cut & paste punk fanzine, "Thieves & Prostitutes", which began publication way back in the day in 1991, & ran for about five years. T & P was an effort by a cluster of former punker reprobates who all had spiritual events transform their lives; in fact, the title is based on a biblical verse where Yeshua is bawling out the religious leaders & telling them, "Even the thieves & prostitutes are entering the kingdom of heaven before you! For when Yochanan the Immerser came to show you the way, you did not believe, but the thieves & the prostitutes did!" (Matityahu 21:31). I also found it paradoxical that the first person that Yeshua promises salvation to is the thief being crucified with him, & that was something I could totally relate to! So, not wanting to look egomaniacal like a lot of zine editors who care more about free CD's & being on guest lists than what they're saying, we used pseudonyms on everything we did, my girlfriend signing Prostitute, & me signing Thief. So, after years of only seeing the name Thief on flyers, posters, stickers, & demo covers promoting indy music, most kids in the underground still only know me as the Thief.

Tagging is always a good way to get in trouble with corporate clients! This was one of many submissions to And One, the third largest sports apparel company right behind Nike & Reebok,... kinda depressing, 'cause it's all run by a bunch of kids just out of school. This piece was considered too extreme, they're very into a branded logo look, but now that I'm back in New York, I see tons of the stuff I worked on for them walking down the street.
