Under Rapid Evolution(Just like life--always changing!) Old Man of the Web Necromancer of SyberPhreak the TechnoShaman Large Paleo Rock Art Photo Keeper of Bear the Grizzly, Wizard In the beginning there were Babbage and Lovelace who begot Plans. Plans grew and developed through the ages until there appeared, just inland of the western sea, PC, most favored son of Plans. PC experienced the most rapid growth of all things. But alas, PC was alone. PC grew to many, but stood alone. So alone. Not even GUI the Great Interface could bring them together. There came to pass in the days of Uncle Sam of the Big Bucks, in the land of plenty, a vision. A vision of war chiefs and chemical wizards working together in order to produce a much stronger control over the peoples of all the lands. Having seen the rapid growth of PC, Uncle Sam of the Big Bucks decreed that all war cheifs and chemical wizards should work together so that their power and number could multiply much more rapidly. And there went forth from the land such a cry that Uncle Sam of the Big Bucks had to spread the green all over the war chiefs and chemical wizards to the end of linking their lonely PCs. Thus the NET was first seen upon the face of the earth ARPAnet was set loose upon the land. Unbeknown to Uncle Sam of the Big Bucks there were at this same time, growing in the land of plenty, greater wizards than the chemical wizards. Their good deeds produced BBS and MIRC. These wizards, bred of the screen and multi-channels, instant access and multi-sensory environments lay in the homes of the huddled masses gathering their spells unto themselves. A subgroup of the new wizards called the Phreaks entered into waters of discontent to by pass the spreading of the green. This subgroup is seldom heard of today. For as the net grew so did the new wizards. One of their number, Tim of the Berners-Lee rose to take a leadership position among the new wizards and in so doing produced WWW, URL, HTTP, and HTML. All new and wondrous marvels never seen before. The new wizards embraced this magic as that which could link them unto one another and so increase their power and number. As all now know Uncle Sam of the Big Bucks tried for the next eon to curtail the growth of the net and to limit the power of the new wizards. Despite his efforts the beast that had been loosened upon the land could not be curtailed. There are some rumors among the tribe of "Those Who Know" that the Phreaks are the ones who kept the net alive durning its younger years and through the battering of Uncle Sam of the Big Bucks in his attempts to limit its power.
