Sunday, October 19, 1997 -- The planning begins

When we were buying some of the things we got today, I wanted to get an "Out" or "Genre" magazine and slip it in with the bridal ones. I told Azura it was just my contradiction filter acting up. I woke up early, long before Azura. I think Mom was up, but over at my grandparents, and Dad was up, working the Sunday Crossword puzzle. I got a cup of coffee, and sat down to talk with him.

We talked for a bit about what it would take for me, really us to buy a house, and it's beginning to sound like a do-able proposition. At least once I get my debt squared away. Then I looked at Dad's Office, CD-ROM, and 'Generic' Amway catalogs, just to see if there was anything in there that was worthwhile. All the software was educational, and the computer stuff was pretty tame. I can buy Gateway stuff through them, but I'm not ready for that level of purchase yet. I don't mind making purchases through them. And yes, I could join Amway and buy them myself.

I'm just being stubborn. Something happened that day dad sent me some MLM stuff, and I threw it all away. There was even stuff in there I could use (phone cards--the supposed product), but I threw it away as junk mail. Why Junk Mail? Because I didn't ask for it. I didn't know it was coming, so I threw it all away.

Dad called me a couple of weeks later, and asked about it. I said, "That was from you?" I pretty much knew that it was, but he'd never said. "Yes, I signed you up. I figured you know it was from me, or at least call me when you got it." "Well, I threw it away," I said.

Then we got into a long conversation. I am somewhat sorry I threw something of value away. I am somewhat mad about it still. I talked to Mom then, and she told me that he'd promised never to do it again. She, at least then, understood.

Now it's happening again, except the pressure's a lot harder, but less direct. Everyone in my immediate family (Yep my brother too), as well as my aunt (Dad's sister), is involved in Amway.

Azura told me on the way home. "Amway is a cult, I told you..." I laughed and nodded. Man, I love her.

After we left the house, we went over to my grandmother's to sit. Today was a bad day. At least from my perspective. Nanny was incoherent and disoriented, tired and sleepy. Azura and my grandfather chatted about health care (Azura's a Certified Nursing Assistant) and I tried to look comfortable. Azura and I eventually decided not to tell my grandfather this week.

By this time we'd decided to head to the beach again next week. We were going to go to something called "Witchstock". I wasn't sure how I felt about that, but thought it might be a good place to find someone to officiate at the wedding. This is really me being a pain in the ass. I'll try to explain it tomorrow.

We headed to my parent's grabbed Dickens, and headed home. On the way home we stopped and got a pumpkin, and some other fruits at a fresh market, and stopped at a walmart and got a cd-player & fm broadcast thingy that will let us have better music on the trip.

We got home about 6 and tried to catch our breaths. This has been one crazy week. The only thing that's even remotely certain for me outside of work, is that I love Azura, and I love that she's here with me.
