"Times"

Before the laughter,
Before everyone entered my life,
Times were different;
I was who I was, and I wasn't me.
But now it's changed,
Who am I if I don't exist?
What will become of me
If everyone were to leave my life?
Forget about it all,
Forget about the holes in my life,
Forget about the pain,
Leave the sadness at the doorstep.
The fall to the bottom,
The travel back to the past,
The remembrance of pain,
The trip to the people we once knew,
Everything hurts, everything leaves.
And somewhere lost between the love,
Lies the forgiveness that binds us all together.

"A Poem For My Mother"
5-21-98

Why did you cry for me
When I was too young to understand sadness?
Why did you sing to me
When I didn't understand the words?
Why did you love me
When I gave nothing in return?
Why after all these years
Have you been there for me?

You are my mother, and I your son.
You gave me your shoulder when I was tired,
And books to read when I was bored.
You took me to the park,
And taught me to swim.
Your love for me always was there,
Even when we fought,
Even when I was gone,
Your love never left my side.

And as I remember all these memories,
I remember most the times I learned from you.
You taught me to listen,
And to build, and see.
You taught me to read and to speak,
And to sense the beauty around me,
But above all this,
You taught me to love.
And with this love you poured out to me,
I can only love you back.

"Don't"

Don't leave.
She turned.
Don't cry.
Her eyes were dry.
Don't look.
She was blind.
Don't.
She did.

Have a heart.
Mine is broken.
Will you fix it please?
Will you take me back to yesterday?
Where are you going?
You shake my hand,
I hold up my chin.
We say goodbye,
And you're gone.
