The Beautiful Game

Yep, I'm a soccer fan. Actually, it's called different things worldwide: football, futbol, calcio, but here we call it soccer. It doesn't matter; it's the best sport in the world.

My involvement with soccer goes back many years, but only recently has it developed into an all-consuming passion for the game. I played at the youth level until the 8th grade (at which point I realized that I had to possess some actual talent in order to get on competitive teams...:-) Removed from the delusion that I had such talent, I dropped soccer, only to rediscover it during World Cup 94. Boy did I ever!

For the past five years I've been following the US National Team voraciously, trying to get my daily (and, in some cases, hourly) fix of news involving any soccer match I could get my hands on. Imagine my glee, then, when I realized that my own city of Columbus, Ohio was about to get a top-level team of it's own! I was ecstatic, to say the least. I've since thrown myself into the support of this team, Columbus Crew. I've helped form an independent (but semi-official) supporters group called The Contractors SC in order to help promote this team, and help others find the joy that I have found in soccer.

My activites with the Contractors are pretty varied right now. I'm involved in putting together the North End, a dedicated cheering section for all sorts of Crew fans. I also write for two soccer web sites, CrewFan (the Contractors SC site) and SoccerSpot - a sort of uber-fan-site. Oh yeah, I also go to all the games and sing my head off. Its a blast, you should try it :-)

Soccer News Sources: To feed your addiction!

Soccer America's News Index. A great resource for soccer in the USA, and a decent overview of what's going on elsewhere in the world.
NandO.net's Soccer Server. The most comprehensive soccer news site on the Internet, bar none. If you want to find the latest results from the Colombian or Swiss leagues, you'll find it here. Plus some in-depth coverage of the more prominent leagues, like Spain, England, Germany, and Italy.
Soccer Times - funded by ESPN, this is one of the better soccer news sites on the web.
