Switching Suits

Leading To Give Count and Signal Possession

A switch in time. Leading a new suit that partner has signalled for, while giving count and signalling possession (or not) of a key honor.

    1. High (including the lead of the honor) shows an ODD number of cards in the suit. Be sure that switching is correct if you do not hold a significant honor.

    2. Low shows an EVEN number of cards in the suit (current count) WITH the honor.

    3. Second high shows an EVEN number of cards in the suit (current count) and DENIES the significant honor. Be sure that switching is correct if you do not hold a significant honor.

    4. IF leading from a TENACE, finessing considerations may require that a low card be led so that a return through declarer's minor honor can be effected.
