Jamie sits at the keyboard
Typing with one hand
The other hand is moving
She's pretending there's a man
The monitor can flicker
Casting shadows on the floor
But it's substitute illumination
She needs something more
She's got something missing
She's got an empty life
She tried a dozen different passwords
But she still can't get it right
She's longing for a human soul
Connected to her own
She goes cruising on the modem
Connected to her telephone
She's got something missing
Something trying to break free
Jamie doesn't know it
But she's just like you and me
She's got something missing
Her husband up and left her
After fifteen years she is alone
The children all are grown-up
But Jamie hasn't grown
Sometimes she finds a gentle voice
But so quickly it is gone
The echoes in her linger
As the day meanders on
Once she went to a singles bar
It's not the same, she realized
She could see their faces
How they all had empty eyes
Connected to a million people
And still feeling so alone
Jamie tries a new name
Wonders how the world keeps going on
She gets on another screen, says,
"someone...talk...to me...please..."
She's got something missing
She's got an empty life
She tried a dozen different passwords
But she still can't get it right
She's longing for a human soul
Connected to her own
She goes cruising on the modem
Connected to her telephone
She's got something missing
Something trying to break free
Jamie doesn't know it
But she's just like you and me
She's got something missing
