I did some struggling with this one as to which page
to put it on. It really is more suitable to the Wetlands page These are called pitcher plants. They are a carnivorous plant
that grow in heavily bogged areas. This particular print was the culmination
of what had become almost an obsession for me. It took four trips into Silver
Lake Bog to get a negative that I was happy with. It was 6:00 in the morning
on a hot, humid and very overcast day when I entered the bog for the fourth
and last time. I had this good feeling inside that today was the day. The
mosquitoes trying to have me for breakfast went pretty much unnoticed. I
ended up going back to my dark room with 4 wonderful negs and never returned
to the bog.
You can't see it on here but the morning dew lying on the leaves added considerably to what I thought to be stunning prints.
In the spring of 1994, I decided to take a vacation
to the upper eastern corner of Maine. This print is of the lighthouse at
Quoddy Head. Quoddy is the eastern most point of land on the Continental
United States. It's beautiful country up there and highly recomended to
anyone who likes to visit out of the way places on their travels.
My home for the last 3 years has been in the Saratoga
Springs, NY area. I was headed south in the spring of '95 and stopped here
to visit a friend for a few days. Saratoga is an exciting town that many
people come to visit and can't find a reason to want to leave. This print
originated in Congress park.
Just outside town on a side road is a place called
Yado. Yado is a home by invitation to artists from all over the world. This
is the entrance to a formal Italian Garden at the lower end of the property.
Near the Garden at Yado is this fountain. This and the
Gardens are the only portion of the property accessable to the general public.
The main house and grounds are kept off limits to all but the artists in
residence to give them the peace and quiet to accomplish their work.
